SO
received the Fairphone 6
I can't give a full review because I spent the next couple days trying to install e/OS on the thing
Very briefly, I love the heft the thing has, and the non-slick/matte feel of the back cover. It feels as sturdy as it is without being bulky (IMHO)
The screen moves pretty smoothly.
There are some differences to the way the Samsung is set up that require relearning different muscle movement for the Fairphone, but that's the same with any phone if you switch between companies.
I want to look into using it further, but thought that there was no point as I want to install a different OS that might act differently to the Android that comes pre-installed
I fell down trying to install the e/OS though, sadly
Fairphone is supported by e/OS so they have an easier way to install than, say, you were trying to install it on a Samsung or other Android phone they DON'T support, for which you have to go unlock the bootloader and install with command prompts and I don't know what I'm saying anymore, it looks scary (but the instructions to do so are pretty straightforward)
tldr, I was working on easy mode because they have more streamlined step-by-step instructions for dowloading e/OS to the Fairphone, but I kept getting caught up when my phone wouldn't connect to the site.
I thought it was my cable at first, so I bought a data transfer cable from Amazon - no luck.
I could have given up and tried the hard way, but I was scared of bricking the phone
As of now, I factory reset the thing and am sending it back for a refund before I buy one with e/OS preloaded
I wanted to install it myself in case I ended up hating e/OS, (plus it's cheaper to buy without it) but if that happens I'm going to have to just return the e/OS model, but the standard again and try installing e/OS one more time - I might practise on my old Samsung first, just in case
All this because Google has an unreasonable stranglehold on the Internet as a whole and I just want some privacy -_-
At least I'll be helping fund a company with Internet privacy in mind.
Now to remove Opera and Microsoft Edge from my laptop - e/OS won't load from Firefox or Brave so I had to download them, and looking at it is making me cringe!
