while i do understand the modern lens of batman not smoking due to concern for his health ⸺ which, in a universe like his, where his body is rejuvenated through mysterious circumstances every major crisis event canonically, is a bit silly anyways ⸺ i do mourn the loss of his smoking habit post-golden age. it's a trait basically every noir detective character has, as smoking usually happens during brooding sessions and the likes, often representing existential dread, seduction, etc., practically perfect aesthetically for a broody character like bruce wayne.
