Unfortunately, the awards show has been postponed to October 4, 2020, because of the ongoing COVID-19 concerns and precautions. But, that shouldn’t take anything away from the excitement or pride the nominees across all 16 categories are feeling today. Special congratulations go out to Meghan Patrick and The Reklaws who lead the way with six nominations each, closely followed by James Barker Band (5) and Tebey and Tim Hicks (4) on the 2020 list.

Note: There are three non-voting categories at the 2020 CMAO Awards as well, with the Impact Award, Nielsen Compass Award, and the Holly and Steve Kassay Generous Spirit Award. Congratulations go out to Carroll Baker, who has been named the 2020 Impact Award recipient.

Thanks to Tebey’s team, we have two (2) tickets to give away for the Toronto stop on the tour at The Opera House on Friday, February 7, 2020. Named for his new single with Marie Mai, The Good Ones Tour will also introduce 2019 Top of the Country winner Matt Lang to audiences, as well as BC-native Kristin Carter on the first two shows of the run. It’s a great opportunity for the young artists to get up on a big show, as Tebey shows Canada that he’s more than ready to be a headlining leading man.

In an email announcing the tour, Tebey said, “My first-ever headline tour has definitely been a long time coming… I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t nervous. As a headliner the onus is on you to sell the tickets. And we’re going into some big venues on this tour like The Commodore in Vancouver, which is 1,000+. It’s a lot of pressure, but it’s also time to take this exciting step.”

He’s right, it’s a big deal, a lot of tickets, and there are some big rooms on the tour. But we have no doubt that he’s ready for that pressure. No doubt that Canadian country music fans are going to grab these tickets and show up. And no doubt that this is just another step as Tebey continues to climb in his career.

We’ve had the chance to see Tebey live more than a few times over the past few years, and we can tell you that the energy and vibe that he brings to the stage matches the library of songs that he has to offer. These shows will have people singing and dancing along to Good Jeans, Jealous Of The Sun, Denim On Denim, and his first #1 single, Who’s Gonna Love You. It’s going to be a country music party, hosted by a man who knows what it takes to get people going.

Opening up the night was Sudburyʼs own Andrew Hyatt; filling the room with his country-rock sound and raspy vocals. Andrew definitely knew how to keep the crowd singing at the top of their lungs when he performed his hit song On Me which made it on the Top 10 Country Radio list in 2017. I always say great concerts always have great openers, memorable from start to finish and grabbing your attention from every angle of the venue.

Tim Hicks did not fail to entertain whatsoever with bringing second act Tebey on board!

I remember the first time I saw Tebey perform I couldnʼt stop smiling. It was to the point that I forgot to take a video or photo for social media because of how fantastic his show was.

I love how intimate he is with his fans, taking phones and capturing the atmosphere on stage for fans and taking the time after his show to meet his supporters. Tebey is not only incredible to watch on stage, but he is an extremely talented writer, he has written for various artists in both the country and pop music genres, some artists include One Direction, Fifth Harmony and Justin Moore. Tebey also announced on stage last night that Somebody Else Will became his first Billboard Country #1 as a songwriter. Congratulations Tebey!!!

And then we got the moment we had all been waiting for, two-time platinum selling and three-time Juno nominated (to name a few honours) Tim Hicks jumped to the stage driving the crowd absolutely insane.

Tim started off the night with his fourth studio album title song New Tattoo, a great way to kick off his set! Following with Here Comes The Thunder and Hell Raisin’ Good Time. I have been very lucky to photograph Tim 15 times now and heʼs never had a concert like the other. He knows how to bring back a memory with a song and bring out those dance moves you didnʼt know you had!

From start to finish Tim Hicks knew how to keep the party going. I canʼt wait for anyone who hasnʼt seen him to create these memories when they do!
