Found while packing up! Once upon a time, I was able to form my own after school Japanese language club for an elementary school that I taught at. This was the lesson plan that I wrote up for my kids in the club💖 #selfteaching #japanese #languages #language #beginner #japaneselanguage #learnjapanese #jlptn5 #jlpt #n5 #easyjapanese #japanesevocabulary #hiragana #kanji #katakana #teaching #iloveteaching #teacherkitsu #wanttolearn #languagelearning #japan #selfstudy #onlinelearning #officialshiritaino (at Phoenix, Arizona)

This lesson is a little different and will probably need to be read a couple times over to fully grasp how to use the particle "は". 🤦🏼📑
Also! There is no romaji in this lesson.😱‼️
The sooner you can get away from relying on romaji, the faster you will learn hiragana.
(But no worries! I did include furigana over the kanji!)
Without further ado, here is the new lesson below!
*****
Introduction to Japanese Particles
Part 1
A: 「は and の」
「は」Topic Particle
· What is a topic particle?
A topic particle is a particle used to mark the topic of a sentence. It is found in Japanese, Korean, Ryukyuan (a group of languages spoken in the Amami Islands, Kagoshima Prefecture and the Okinawa Islands, Okinawa Prefecture of southwestern Japan), Imonda (a Papuan language of Sandaun Province, Papua New Guinea) and also has limited use in classical Chinese.
**Remember! While は is normally pronounced as “ha”, it is pronounced as “wa” when being used as a topic particle.**
Structure:
“As for X, it is such that…”
It puts forward the item that you want to talk about or comment on.
Now, topic phrases in a sentence such as 私(わたし)の専攻(せんこう)は日本語(にほんご)です (My major is Japanese.) 日本語(にほんご) is the subject in that sentence.
However, not all topic phrases need to be the subject of a sentence.
In the examples below, we will see sentences where non-subject phrases are made topics with the help of the particle 「は」.
Examples:
1.
日本語(にほんご):ここは寒(さむ)くありません。
英語(えいご):This place is not cold.
2.
日本語:今日(きょう)は京都(きょうと)に行(い)きます。
英語: I’m going to Kyoto today.
3.
日本語:朝(あさ)ご飯(はん)はもう食(た)べましたか?
英語:Did you eat breakfast already?
In the examples above, we see は promoting expressions as the topic of each sentence.
In the example below, は is used as a way to catch the listener’s attention and to invite a comment to what is being said.
4.
日本語: 晩(ばん)ご飯(はん)は?
英語:How about dinner?
**Note: The topic 晩(ばん)ご飯(はん) is not a subject relation to the verb, but is instead its direct object.**
