@chaptersnet event iii: spooky reads – the dead and the dark, by courtney gould
if the gold hills and bright skies of snakebite are hope, the dark is the opposite. it is hope turned inside out. it is curdled anger, spite like tar, residue that sits on the lake water like a film.
@storyseekers event 18: 2021 debut, the dead and the dark
— they’d never kept secrets from each other. at least, she’d thought they didn’t
BOOKS READ IN 2021 ➵ THE DEAD AND THE DARK BY COURTNEY GOULD (★★★★☆)
“We could be her family,” Alejo said. “Isn’t that what our little unit is supposed to be? A collection of things other people threw away?”

there would be pain and there would be hope, and logan wasn’t sure which scared her more. but she wasn’t alone anymore. and wherever the road took them, they’d been through worse.
for @sophiemina 🤍
thinking about logan and brandons relationship from tdatd and how brandon never like healed any of his pain or anger he had from his isolation in his youth and how much of a miracle logan was to him and alejo and how much he loved her as soon as he saw her
and then abt how the fact that he never sought help for those issues let the dark manifest inside him and eventually when he did lose her (for the first time) it all just spilt over and was released and how even after they got logan back he never fully addressed what happened and THATS WHY the rift between him and logan formed bc he never addressed what his issues caused and when the dark finally went for her he didnt have the proper skills to explain to her what happened during that investigation they were on
and how logan spent so much of her life thinking one of her dads hates her when really he just hated himself but he never made any effort to like. deal with his issues or go to therapy and in the end it ended up nearly destroying his relationship with her!!!!!!!!! like courtney gould really said “parents go to therapy”

Apologies, a lot of the Devil and the Dead was inspired directly by conversation with @ectoimp and so wound up in the reblogs. Most of the main story can be found here. Ordered chronologically, but there are a few other things under the tag.
Or if you want, the story can be read in it’s entirety here on Ao3. Most, though not all, of the side stories are collected in The Devil’s in the Details there as well. I intend to move all of the others there sooner or later, but I’ve been tangled up in a fic project.
