i dont like the way this website talks about dysphoria tbh. it seems like every time its brought up, its in reference to how MISERABLE and SOUL CRUSHING it is and how SAD and PITIFUL people who experience it are... it's also very telling that people avoid talking about it in any other way because they don't want to come off as a "transmed" or something. its never posts on how to cope with it (unless they make a joke about it), it's never about showing support from people who suffer from it, it's never posts about explaining how to identify it, because half of this website is shamed out of talking about their experiences with dysphoria, and the other half is "uncomfortable" with said expressions. talking openly about dysphoria sometimes ends in an echo chamber of misery and insecurity and people are too afraid of that outcome to have candid discussions about it. like yeah it fucking sucks going through it. sometimes hrt can cure it. sometimes a new haircut can cure it, but why is there not discussion and support for the people who feel as if their dysphoria will never be cured, only lulled, only to be coped with for the rest of their lives? is it because people are afraid and uncomfortable with that reality? is it because tumblr cares a lot less about trans people than they say they do? dysphoria is not some mystical brooding sadness that doesnt have an explanation. it's actually way more than that and i think this results in a lot of people heavily downplaying their dysphoria because nobody is talking about all of the ways it can manifest aside from "sigh.. i wish i was a real boy...sigh...my sadness is so sexy and alluring... someone please fuck me to fix it!" like i dont know, tumblr is how i even found out what being trans was back in like 2013 and it makes me kinda sad to see how discussions around transness changed. there's always been bad apples but the way this website currently just likes to Mythologize Dysphoria is so damaging for people who are struggling with it, think theyre struggling with it, etc. there's been so much of a discussion of whether or not having dysphoria makes you valid and not how to actually quiet it or treat it and how to help your friends dealing with it. it's so. ! telling imo.
