As I promised, new promtp requested. This one by jimparsonsgivesmelife.Â
This time it’s a Shelnard fic that I found interesting to write since this moment seems to be approaching. It made me feel bad, I don’t think I will be able to handle this when it happens. Anyway, this fic also contains some Shamy and Lenny.
Thank again for the promtp!
The day hadfinally come. Sheldon had feared that moment for so long, but once that was actually happening, he felt confident and brave, he could get through it, he was a grown man after all. Amy was there, holding his hand everytime she had the chance to do it, Sheldon didn’t mind, she was giving him support. Howard, Bernadette and Raj were there too, helping.
“Okay, I think that was the last box” Howard said as he came back from Penny’s apartment, where they had been taking boxes with Leonard’s stuff for the last two hours. Â
“Al right, thanks, buddy” Leonard said.
“Leonard, wait” Sheldon said walking through the hall carrying a paper bag. “Before you go, I want to give you this” he added, handing the bag to Leonard, who looked at Sheldon.
“Oh, Sheldon, you didn’t have to” Leonard said as he took the Batman Cookie jar he had bought to Sheldon so many years ago, as a compensation for getting Sheldon off of their Physics Bowl team.
“I know, but I just wanted you to have it. Besides, since Penny refused to let us repaint her apartment, it will make it look a less girly for a guy that’s about to live there”.
“Oh, well. Thank you, Sheldon; it means a lot”. Leonard said.  Sheldon and Leonard shared a look. Everyone was just staring at them with a sad look on their faces. Penny was about to cry.
“Oh, God, I’m crying already and I’m not the one who’s moving” Raj said sobbing and Bernadette rubbed his back gently.
“Well, maybe we should be going. We’re going to the Comic Book store if you guys want to join us” Howard said opening the door. Sheldon and Leonard nodded. Raj took a tissue out of his pants and cleaned his tears, following Howard and Bernadette.
“Give us a call if you guys need anything” Bernadette offered and they left.
Leonard looked at Sheldon again.
“Well, I guess this is it” Leonard said.
“Yeah” Sheldon said and he raised his hand for Leonard to shake it. “I never thought I would ever said this, but I’m gonna miss you, and, um, it’s been a pleasure to have you as roommate, Leonard Hofstadter” he said.
“I wish I could say the same thing” Leonard said as he took Sheldon’s hand. Sheldon gave him a look. “I’m kidding” Leonard say with a chuckle. Sheldon did his fake laugh and Amy laughed. She had always found Sheldon’s laugh endearing and extremely funny. “And I’m gonna miss you too” he added and then he gave Sheldon a hug. Surprisingly, Sheldon hugged him back; he even squeezed him a little. Penny approached to the door to open it so she and Leonard could leave.
“We’ll be just across the hall, sweetie. Don’t worry” Penny told Sheldon.
“Yeah, whatever you need, we’ll be there for you” Leonard said.
“Oh, don’t be silly. I’ll be fine” Sheldon said with a sad smile on his face. Penny and Leonard left and they closed the door behind them. Sheldon kept staring at the door a few seconds.
“I’m proud of you, Sheldon. You’re taking this really well” Amy said taking his hand again. Sheldon looked at her.
“I know. And I’m proud of me too” he said. “Now, let’s go so you can see your new bedroom”. He said leading Amy to Leonard’s room. Sheldon had asked Amy to move in with him a few days before, he figured that was the best thing to do and he had so many reasons to do so: first of all, he was gonna have an empty room. He didn’t actually need a roommate, since he had changed his field of study, the University had raised his salary and he had no money issues. Second, living by himself after sharing his home with Leonard for so long didn’t sound like something he wanted to do. Third, he didn’t want to get through all the new roommate selection procedures all over again. And most importantly, he loved Amy and he thought it was time for them to take the next step in their relationship. He felt already ready for that. As expected, Amy accepted his offer with no hesitation, but she had been working on a new research that needed her to be focus and working most of the time, so she was to move in with Sheldon a couple of weeks later.
“This is exciting” Amy said while they were walking through the hall.
When Sheldon opened the door of Leonard’s now-old bedroom, he couldn’t help to feel nostalgic. Everything was gone, excepting for the mattress. No posters, no book cases with Leonard’s comic books, no more sword’s replicas, anything. Sheldon came inside and opened the closet: no more Superhero costumes, no more hoodies and no more converse shoes. He wanted to cry, Leonard had been his best friend for so long, he even got the couch were Sheldon had found his favorite spot on hearth, he was going to miss him even more than he ever expected. He felt silly of getting sensitive all of the sudden, so he tried to recover.
“Sheldon, are you okay?” Amy said, noticing Sheldon’s sad expression.
“I’m fine, Amy. I’m fine” he said closing the closet.
“You know I can’t move in right now, but if you want to, I can stay and spend the night here, so you won’t feel lonely” Amy suggested. Sheldon liked the idea, but he rejected it.
“I appreciate the gesture, but that won’t be necessary. No offense, but I’m glad it’s gonna take you some days to move in, I think I need some time to be alone” he said.
“I understand and I’m glad you’re willing to face these changes all by yourself” Amy said proudly.
“Thank you. I guess I’m braver than I thought” Sheldon said.
“You are” Amy said smiling at him. “Do you want me to make you a hot beverage?” she asked.
“That sounds great. Thank you” Sheldon said, feeling better.
Leonard and Penny were unpacking, cleaning and organizing Leonard’s stuff. Penny had gotten used to all the nerdy things her boyfriend owned but she never thought she would ever feel so pleased to place them on her apartment. They were all part of who Leonard was and that made her feel good, she was excited about that new adventure she was going to take with her nerdy neighbor that now was her fiancé.
“So, where should I put this amazing Batman cookie jar?” Penny said taking the item.
“Hum, in the lobby, maybe?” Leonard said sarcastically.
“Ha ha ha, really funny. I mean, this is something special, Leonard. Don’t you want to keep it in our room instead of the kitchen? Maybe you can put some other things inside besides cookies”. Penny said.
“Like what?” Leonard asked.
“I don’t know; you have a lot of crap in here” she said joking looking at the box she was opening. Leonard looked at her.
“You know? Maybe you’re right. I should keep this in the room. I can’t believe Sheldon gave me this” Leonard said taking the jar from Penny’s hand.
“Yes. Me neither” she said.
“Perhaps I should have given him something too” Leonard said.
“I know what you can do!” Penny shouted excited. “What if we let Sheldon organize this place? That could be your gift!”
“What?” Leonard asked.
“Yes, he just loves to do these things. I remember the first week I lived here, Sheldon sneaked in here and he organized all my stuff. And you did it too!”Penny said as she remembered the occasion. Leonard laughed.
“Oh my God, you’re right. I have totally forgotten about that” he said.
“So, what do you say? Do we ask him?” Penny said standing up from the floor.
“You realize I know you’re doing this because you’re way too lazy to keep unpacking?” Leonard said. Penny looked at him, she felt lucky to have a guy that knew her so well, but sometimes, it wasn’t really convenient.
“Yeah” she said, ashamed.
“That’s okay, I don’t want to do this either” Leonard said and they both went to get Sheldon, who accepted happily the “gift” his ex roommate but still best friend Leonard had given to him. It was certainly thoughtful.
