A chaotic catch
It took five trips out on the big lake, but the skunk, as they say, is finally out of the box.
After four fishless attempts, I was beginning to wonder - as one does at these moments - if I would ever pull another fish from Lake Huron.
This lake trout struck at about 7 a.m. I was all alone, trolling into a moderate breeze, so when I abandoned the steering wheel to fight the fish, the John B's bow began to turn away from the wind. This caused my three lines - the one with the fish and the other two - to cross and tangle.
Nonetheless, the trout was well hooked and held on for the ride, as did I. After 10 or 15 minutes, I was able to net it, along with a knot of lines and tackle.
