I just realized that Tanakom might not have been the only audience for Tanwa and Trin flirting. Dhevi was sitting right beside Trin and could probably hear every word they said 😅
Is This a Viable Ending?
So, in this episode we got Trin accepting that he does have feelings for Tanwa, a minor fight between them when Tanwa acts flippantly about their relationship, and a moment of vulnerability from Tanwa that lets them grow closer. We also got the above line from Tanakom: an offer to Trin that opens up a way that he and Tanwa could live happily ever after...
But is that where the story is going?
Well - it is interesting to note that Tanwa spoke French to Trin (or rather, tried to) a couple times in the last episode. Could that have been foreshadowing?
(Quick tangent: as @alex-goes-brrr has pointed out, it makes sense for Tanwa to be shitty at French! What better way to impress the cute professor who spent a decade studying in Paris, than trying to learn to say sweet things to him in his second language? He's better at the second line, but only because those aren't his own words - that's a quote from Jean-Paul Sartre, which he could have learned in his Philosophy classes)
Ultimately, though, I don't think Be On Cloud would have Trin (with or without Tanwa) end the series by leaving Thailand.
After all, Trin's life goal has always been to help his country:
Even if he faces discrimination, and even if he becomes demoralized by what we know the military government is about to do --
-- I don't think BOC would have him just give up on his country, his people, and run away to France.
Not permanently, at least.
Note this clip from the trailer: this looks like present-day Trin, given his hair is shorter than the flashback scenes we've gotten.
My theory: after everything goes down with the student protests, Trin will decide to take up Tanakom's offer and escape to Paris. He'll be wracked with guilt, and he'll abandon everything - including Tanwa - to lick his wounds and try to forget the hopes he once had.
But that won't be the end.
Because something - maybe Tanwa himself (after all, he's had plenty of practice showing up where Trin least expects him) - will pull Trin back home. Where he'll stay and fight for a better future. And learn to find hope and joy in the spaces he can.
Okay, they did this one just to fuck with us, didn't they?
(Interesting that I can now see the two women in the trailer clip, though - there's just the bit of the one in the foreground's nose, and you can slightly see the one in the background moving... And here I thought Tanakom and Tanwa were having a sad moment alone 😂)
Quick reminder:
Scenes in the trailer aren't necessarily how we'll see them in the show!
I'm guessing the trailer version of the above scene between Tanwa and Tanakom was just a different take, or possibly even a blooper given how exaggerated Mile's expression is - but, either way, the vibe changes so much from one to the other!
When I saw the trailer, I thought Tanwa was trying to joke around with this unnamed man (his friend? another love interest?) by jumping behind him and making faces at him. In reality, he's come up behind Tanakom to ask him for help with Trin, and got an accidental gut punch from the pool cue.
(Also note the changed colour tone - the trailer must have used raw footage, and they warmed things up for the actual scene...)
It'll be cool to see what other assumptions we've made from the trailer that may be broken by the show!
