Conversations with my friends:
Me: "casual greeting"
Friend one: "casual response"
Friend two: "will you guys ever use actual words?"
Friend one and I: "INSULT!"
Metametheus.
“Open fire!” his captain commanded and, without thinking, the soldier complied. All were agog at a flame flung wide open and the slumbering child it had hidden inside.
Highlight of my workday: client lies on couch, I suggested grabbing a pillow and putting in on his head... can't say that he didn't listen #takingthingsliterally #careworker (faces blurred for privacy)
I have yet to understand this saying: “this was WONDERFUL! So and so can do no wrong!”
Really? Sure they can, they can do plenty wrong. Just because you do one amusing, delightful, funny, cool thing, doesn’t mean you are absolved of any other wrong, or that you have become incapable of wronging.
Or perhaps, that thing the person just did, that seems so right to you, may seem oh so wrong to someone else. Life is two sided like that.

Taking Things Literally
I love it when my students take things literally. While there are many instances of this one fantastic moment where a student took something literally was while we were listening to music and doing exercises in class. I played the song 'Trouble' by Taylor Swift. I was assisting on one side of my classroom and when I turned on the other side of the room one student in particular was sitting on the ground. When I asked her what she was doing she said:
I was lying on the cold hard ground OW! Trouble! Trouble! Trouble!
In that moment I didn't quite know what to do. Here is this 60 year old woman with I/DD lying on the floor in front of me dancing to Taylor Swift. I couldn't help but laugh. Whenever I try to explain to her that just because she is singing about lying on the cold hard floor that it doesn't mean she needs to be on the floor. This individual looks at me like I am crazy. I usually give up trying to explain it to her smile and move on with the day. It is moments like these that I remember not to take myself too seriously.
