A lot of male-presenting sword-fighters seem to have at least 3 of these tropes attached to them and it's weird that there are so many of them. Okay, so, like every Cyberpunk 2077 simp, the game’s seemingly contradictory timeline drives me nutty. So, I’ve written up a head canon timeline that tries to satisfy everything

1999- Johnny and Kerry meet and become friends in elementary school.

2001: Johnny and Kerry begin learning how to play guitar together. They meet Henry during this time.

2002: Johnny and Kerry start playing gigs at dives and posting music on The Net. They meet Nancy and Denny during this time.

2003-SAMURAI is formed.

2004-2007: Partly because the majority of its members are still in high school, SAMURAI is strictly an underground band. They release no formal EPs or LPs during this era, only playing gigs and posting a handful of singles to The Net. Due to internal conflicts brought about from graduating high school, the band breaks up in the fall of 2007.

2008: Hoping to do something that “makes a real impact”, Johnny joins the military and is sent to Mexico during the Second Central American War. Milt Nauman is a part of Johnny’s unit and quickly becomes akin to a surrogate father figure to Johnny partly due to Nauman having more military experience and partly because he is kind to Johnny. During his second month in Mexico, Johnny loses his arm (this is also when another member of his unit dies for him). Johnny and the rest of his unit desert three months later.

2009: Following the end of the war, Johnny returns to Night City. He is totally despondent for a month until he has an epiphany: Music can provide him with an outlet for his trauma and a platform to “wake people up”. He has Milt replace his military-issue prosthetic arm with a custom silver one. Johnny adopts the name “Johnny Silverhand” after this.

2010: SAMURAI reforms. They’re signed on to Universal Music after an executive, Jack Masters, sees them perform. Their debut LP “Blistering Love” is released. Johnny and Rogue date for the first time.

2011: Johnny and Rogue break up.

2012: SAMURAI releases their second record “Chippin’ In”. Johnny and Alt start dating.

2013: Alt “dies”.

2014: SAMURAI releases their third album “Never Fade Away”.

2015: Alt contacts Johnny through Spider Murphy to let him know she’s alive and to “drop it, just this once”. Johnny and Rogue start dating for the second time and will continue to do so on and off.

2016: SAMURAI releases third LP “A Like Supreme”.

2018: SAMURAI releases their fourth and final record “Black Dog”. After pushing her abusive husband out of a window in their 83rd story apartment, Nancy spends seven months in jail. SAMURAI disbands.

2019: Kerry and Johnny begin producing solo music, often touring as a double bill. Kerry releases his first solo album.

2020: Johnny releases his first solo record.

2021: Johnny and Kerry release their second solo albums on the same day.

2022: In protest of the 4th Corporate War and in response to threats from corps to expose that he deserted during the Second Central American war, Johnny releases his third solo album “SINS of Your Brothers” which outs himself as a deserter and exposes the corporate motivations for the Second Central American war.

We're a group of 3 players who have experience in both Pathfinder 1e and D&D 5e, and are interested in this new system.

We want a GM who is okay with running a lengthy campaign, not exclusively one-shots.

We're on EST time, however we can adjust if needed.

All of us are 17+. We can discuss what themes we would like to explore in advance to the game.

One of my favorite hobbies ever is table-top gaming, and to me, one of the most fun aspects of gaming is creating a character and then developing that character throughout the game. It’s just so fun creating a fictional person out of whole cloth, and breathing life into them.

Because this is a lot like creating a character for a work of fiction, I’ve found that researching tips on character creation for fiction has helped me flesh out characters more for roleplaying games, and vice versa. If anything, it might even be a tad more challenging creating characters for a game, because you then have to be able to get into that character’s headspace, making split-second decisions on their actions and the things that say, improvising on the spot to interact with the GM and other players.

With all of that said, I thought it might be fun to post a short character bio/backstory that I came up with for a game called Wings of Time that I’ll be playing in soon. So for this particular game, you don’t just completely create a character from scratch, you are given a VERY basic character sketch, and then more or less fill in the rest.

So for this character, the parameters given were: his first name, the fact that he’s an assassin, he works for a person named Daeva, he has some kind of curse, and finally that he broke his last contract (a contract to kill a “Scroll-Keeper” named Esta) and is currently on the run with Esta, looking for the City of Djinn. That’s pretty much it. This is what I came up with. (Keep in mind, these notes are really just for me, so I’m not saying this is winning prose or anything, or that I would just info-dump this into a story or something).

Background:

The curse is in his blood. It stretches back through his family line many generations. Every child born to his line carries the curse.

When he was a young child, the local villagers attacked his family out of fear of his parents. They were killed, and he was separated from his younger sister, Kyra.

On his own ever since, scrounging and stealing to survive, he has traveled most of the civilized areas of the world, eventually finding himself in Akkada, where he drew the attention of Daeva.

When Daeva propositioned him for a job --something small-time-- he saw it as a way to make a quick buck. Several jobs later --of increasing difficulty and moral ambiguity-- he realized he was a life-long servant of Daeva whether he liked it or not.

He views the curse in his blood as something that makes him less than human, and so he has come to terms with his line of work; after all, if he’s a monster already, what does being an assassin matter?
