PATHOLOGIC: the uhh the uh uh the uhhh (yes a game hehee) Basically it's about these three healers with different ideological and social backgrounds trying to cure a plague in a small town in the Russian steppe. Daniil is a disgraced scientist that chased an immortal man there in hopes that his laboratory won't be shut down (he's trying to fight death. As a concept. As in the thing that happens). Artemy was born there and is half indigenous (the group is called the Kin) and returns home at the urging of his ailing father (he's a very empty man. He searches for meaning everywhere. He craves something to fulfil him). Clara was born on the first day and crawled out of her grave fully-formed... and you need to discover who she is :) the plague or a saint? A healer or a harbinger? She's born of the earth just like the shabnak-adyr the town fears... (and has an evil twin sister that she spoke into existence by accident)
The Plague itself is an entity. It was simultaneously brought there on purpose and also a natural consequence of mankind (not really conflicting ideas if you think about it). The miracle tower on the edge of town is simultaneously the key to immortality and the place where you can be contained after death. The people there are INSANE. Some of the philosophy pisses me off (sideeyes the Kain family --- there are three main families that each represent one of the healers and the Kains are one of them). The earth is alive and is the mother of all bulls and worms. The earth is also a dead body and the healers are dolls being played with by children, and some of the characters catch glimpses into this reality and have dramatically different responses to it. I genuinely can't stress enough the scope of this game
Pathologic Classic HD is the original from 2005 (but remastered --- the original English translation famously sucked asshole) and contains the routes for all three healers (quests change and some plot points get shifted around... it's like a myth retelling with the way you know what's going to happen but it gets remixed every time). Pathologic 2 is Artemy's game. Pathologic 3 is Daniil's. And Pathologic 4 will be Clara's (I AM SO EXCITED!!!!!!!!)
