A while back one of you asked me to look into how the Heart works and how it chooses which lines to play at what time. As a result I got quite comfortable with the Heart dialogue tree architecture and first just put together a spreadsheet for my own purposes - but then I decided I should go all out and make this information accessible to everybody.
So here is now my recreation of the entire Heart dialogue tree, which the game goes down the moment you use the Heart to decide what line it should whisper to you.
To sum it up, first it checks if you're targeting a specific unique NPC, a generic NPC, or not targeting any NPC at all, and then it checks which NPC you're targeting or what location/mission you're in, and then it figures out which of the relevant lines it should give you depending on which lines it has already played previously. I hope the way I have structured and phrased the text in my drop-downs and some of the info text at the top of the page combine to successfully show you exactly how each branch of decisions works.
If you're interested in, for example, modding specific branches or extracting specific voice lines, "expert mode" will show you all the game object names instead of the descriptive names I've given the events. if you want to see all the lines a character gets at once, "List view mode" will show you all of them once you've reached a relevant point in a branch instead of displaying them voice line by voice line.
This was so so much work as it was my very first time working with JavaScript, and it was fun, frustrating and incredibly educational. I really hope this resource is helpful to someone somewhere, or that you at least find it interesting and that it can teach you a bit more about how the Heart works under its Empress-flesh-and-Void-metal hood. <3

I think we underrate how fucking funny the Pathologic games are because they're hilarious. Yes the cruelty gets to a point where it's comical (it is OBJECTIVELY funny to have you bring a six-chambered gun to a knifefight with seven guys) but also the games are just plain funny and no one ever talks about how funny they are because they're so focused on the torture. On Day One of Patho2 Artemy spends five minutes in the presence of an arrogant twink leaves the house and finds two children outside who are like "is that arrogant twink still in there" and Artemy can respond "yeppp if you wanna throw things at him go ahead"
On Day 6 of Pathologic 3 there's a scene where you go home and there's a fucking bull in your house. Your Little Guy is like "WHY ARE YOU DRAGGING A BULL INSIDE THE BACHELOR'S HOUSE" and the people bringing the bull are like "Yeah Big Vlad said to bring over a bull so we brought over a bull. Also the bull likes it in here so it's not leaving. There's no moving him now he lives here." Daniil, noted asshole, who has spent the past many days trying to save the town, time traveling, constantly resisting the urge to kill himself, and having several different mental breakdowns at once, finds the scenario so absurd he's completely tranquil. He's just like "yeah this might as well happen. this is okay. this is in fact really funny. i'm just gonna relax. i'm at peace with this." When your Little Guy asks if you're sure on that front Daniil can respond either "yeah i'm sure :)" or "ARE YOU KIDDING ME???? NO!!!!! THERE'S A BULL IN MY HOUSE!!!!!!!!!!" The conversation spikes your mania so high that if you don't want your heart to give out you have to immediately either take morphine or run outside to the nearest playground to calm down. Two days later the bull eats all your paperwork.
I love how the men of the three ruling families in Pathologic really love their wives a lot. Big Vlad loved and grieves Victoria and reminisces on how they met. Victor loved Nina so much he lets her possess him. Alexander stands by Katerina through literally everything and (in patho3) kills himself if he loses both her and Clara. The love was there. It's not enough to make them good people. But the love was there.
I'm amazed by the fact that the only (besides the kin) obviously non-russian character who is at least partially non-slavic gets called "rich white privileged boy" just because he is educated and doesn't like people who kill women because of superstition
