I DIDN’T KNOW: The number of women sexually assaulted and raped by members of their own family is disgusting! Even worse, victims are threatened and forced into silence by both men and women elders. Keep in mind, during slavery, slave owners raped the enslaved women, forced them to have the children, then wrote into law that the mixed child produced was to be considered a slave. Not only that, they had the audacity to interpret scripture to support their beliefs. Still today, people will use Jeremiah 1:5 to support their abortion stance. But the scripture has nothing to do with abortion. God was telling Jeremiah, the Priest, that he was specifically chosen for the assignment given. Not to mention, America is not governed by the Bible, says the first Amendment. So, to use such justification in this context, is manipulative at best. To be crystal clear, I’m not for or against abortion. I believe women should have the “freedom” to choose for themselves because it is their human and constitutional right to do so! And in the instances of rape, incest, and other despicable acts, women should DEFINITELY have access to and the right to abortion. The opinions of men on this matter should have no place, because we don’t labor in child birth. The #1 cause of injury and harm to women and girls is men’s violence towards them. This ruling just ensured it stays that way for years to come. So to every woman and girl, I’m saying I’m sorry, even though I know it’s not enough!
