#system specs

Hey guys! I’m looking in getting a new desktop and I desperately need some advice about a predicament i’ve run into:

I had great success in getting Sims 1 Complete Collection and Sims 2 Ultimate Collection running on a PC desktop that had 1TB HDD and a secondary drive with 128GB SSD (solid state).

HOWEVER, for some frickin’ reason, the desktop I really want to get and is customized, has 256GB SSD as the PRIMARY drive, and the 1TB HDD as the SECONDARY drive. So, it’s essentially flipped. I can’t get it to have 1TB HDD as the primary with a SSD secondary, for some reason.

1TB of SDD is way too expensive for me to get; so 256GB or 512GB is the max I can go, with  1TB HDD as a secondary.

My question is: would 256GB (or even 512GB) SSD be enough for a primary drive to run Windows 10 and my Sims games?

If not I will have to go back to square one.

EDIT: Ideally, this desktop would hold my Sims 1 Complete Collection, Sims 2 Ultimate Collection and Sims 3 with EPs up to University, plus CC. I’m kind of leaning towards 512GB for the Primary drive....thoughts?

I haven’t played TS3 in about a year but my current set up is: 

iMac 27 inch 5K 2016 Model 

i7 4.0 Ghz 

32GB RAM 

Radeon R9 M395X with 4GB of VRAM 

500GB SSD w/ 4TB external thunderbolt storage

I always run the sims through a BootCamp partition with windows installed because it just seems to be less crash prone and buggy than running it on OSX. 

I’ll be upgrading come December to the iMac Pro when it’s released though Sims can’t make use of these specs anyway so I wouldn’t recommend going all out just for TS3.

Oh anon, I’m not sure I’m the right person to ask. I recently got a new one (hence the windows 10 install), but I always "inherit” computers. My last pc was my husband’s before he bought a new one, and the one I’m on right now belonged to a friend who bought a new computer last week.

The last time I bought a computer myself was 6 years ago, and that was a laptop, so I’m really out of the loop when it comes to knowing what a good gaming pc is, when it comes to value for money. 

I found Elexis sims PC Buying Guide.  It doesn’t tell you which brand or kind to get, but it is very informative and helpful and I definitely recommend reading it ^^

I think it’s pretty safe to say about 8 out of 10 dentists recommend that you get the hell on Fallout 4 when it releases on November 11. Now, this is no complicated task for folks playing it on console- just shove it in and go, right?- but my PC brethren, have I got good news for you; Fallout 4 will play on just about any mid range rig! Don’t believe me? I’ll just drop the specs in easy to consume bullet points below.

Well, I mean, I can’t actually give Ground Zeroes a test run, given it does not support my operating system. And looking at the minimum specs listed on Steam, I do not meet a single one:

My Current System

OS: Windows XP Service Pack 3 (32-bit)

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo (Dual Core, 3.01ghz)

Memory: 2 GB RAM

Graphics: Radeon HD 6800 (1GB)

DirectX: Version 9

I think I said this in the last ask, but I need a new everything. The two big major components I need are more RAM and a new processor. A new processor means I need a new motherboard. More RAM means I need a new operating system (Windows XP caps at 3gb total).

Ballpark estimates for the RAM, Processor, Motherboard and Operating System are in the range of $400-500. But now my graphics card might be acting up, too? So tack on another $100 to that estimate.

That’s just the way it’s gotta be.
