Sword designs to match each character in the story:
(1) (2) (3) Chinese long swords - design inspired the real-life Swords with Scabbard Mounts from the Met collection - ca. 600 CE
(3) is the least fancy, with scabbard made of rather plain dark wood, to match the character's status, history and overall design; the owner doesn't throw it away despite being broken, not being able to easily get a brand new sword
(4) European sword modelled after a number of 6th century ring swords - robbed from a grave, and thus quite ornamental
