By chance I ended up on a hike that totally exceeded my expectations: started at the Switzer Falls Trailhead and turned around at the top of Mount Lowe with a quick pitstop at Redbox along the way, an 18-mile effort by the end of it. Piecing it together as I went, I thought I'd be in a dry exposed wash for most of the day (sorry Arroyo Seco, love you!). Instead, mixed oak conifer woodland shaded most of my day.
