Challenge? Adventure! Yesterday I competed In a 100k bike race I woke up the next day With a grimace on my face. I planned to ride again Across this land to roam To ride far as possible To try to ride home. I slept in intentionally For two more hours I felt that this recovery Would add to my powers. I considered calling Helen I thought my legs were done Getting back on the bike Did not seem like fun. I breakfasted and packed the steed Not ready to give up yet And hopped on my trusty bike To see how far I could get. The sun had not risen yet The sleep cleared from my eyes I enjoyed being on the bike Much to my surprise. My lights cut through swirling fog The darkness crisp and cool My attitude was readjusted I felt a bit like a fool. My legs were pretty strong again Most muscles sore, but fine I revelled in remarkable conditions On a trail so sublime. The rising sun smudged the sky In tones of orange and pink It was as if some celestial being Was making art in ink. I startled a fox on the path And as I drew near It scampered off into the bush As did a magnificent deer. I made Blackbutt in good time And stopped for a bit Some messages of support from folks Were a real hit. The downhill from Benarkin called The mist made my heart break Through the rainforest it was beautiful Some photos I stopped to take. I revelled in this downhill section Enjoying it in every way It was a great kind of payoff After riding up it yesterday. From Linville to Moore I enjoyed This section is a blast You get good rewards from each stroke It feels like you are fast. In Moore I stopped for food Pol Cafe is the best A lamb and rosemary triangle Of its quality I can attest. The bypass route is not my favourite I don’t see it as much fun I knuckle down and climb those hills And get that section done. What did surprise me though Don’t doubt these words from my mouth It’s easier going this way Travelling from north to south. I thought as I was doing it And it made me feel mighty fine That in all probability That this was my last time. The Scott Speedster was fantastic It ate gravel by the mile And when I hit the bitumen It continued to make me smile. The setup was just flawless The gear enhanced determination Thanks for your support You have my admiration. Thanks guys!
