More dramatic rearing as the victorious Yarraman returns to his herd. 

Yarraman looks more impressive here as he comes to meet The Brolga. 

The Brolga returns to challenge Yarraman for the rule of the Cascade brumbies. Much rearing ensues, with plenty of inhibited bites and no real blows. Thowra apparently learns of their fight from the cockatoos and comes at a gallop, because he wants to watch? To help his father? Who knows. 

So, how sober are you at this point, anyway?

Actual justified rearing as Yarraman and The Brolga face off. Lots of pterodactyl noises, as well as shaky cam footage and ominous music, to offset the fact that this is very much a mock-fight without the speed and violence of a genuine stallion battle.* At the end of it, The Brolga isn’t even in a hurry to leave.

*Which is obviously a good thing, because I have seen some older films from before the welfare of the animals on set was of concern, and there were several stallion fights which made me cringe, because they were too real. 

If you look closely, you can see that gifs 3 and 4 are of the same sequence of movements as the first two gifs, just shot from different cameras, and at different speeds. Similarly, 5-8 are again one sequence shot from multiple angles.

You can also tell that for this fight, Yarraman’s choreography is basically rear, drop down, snap at The Brolga’s head, because he repeats the same sequence of actions several times in this scene.

Thowra arrives in time to see The Brolga putting in the finishing blows.
