The Switch Lite seems kinda pointless to me. The $100 discount isnt that big, considering whats missing.

It isnt that much smaller, so it isnt much more convenient or portable. The battery life is advertised to be about an hour better, but it probably wont be noticeable. And i dont played docked super often, but its nice to have the option.

The option of docked mode is especially nice for local multiplayer games, which isn't really possible on the Lite. The lite cuts you off from a big portion of the Switch's library. Mario Kart, Smash, Mario Party, and Labo are all meant to be played docked, and arent worth much otherwise, especially with how unusable NSO is. For this reason alone, I dont think the Lite is worth getting. You won't have access to a handful of the best games on the console.

I can only defend the Lite if you are a member of its very niche demographic: people who are constantly on the go and cant play any multiplayer games regardless. Even little kids want to Kart!

So even though the turquoise Switch Lite is one of the most beautiful pieces of hardware Nintendo has put out in a while, I can't imagine the Lite is the way to go.

The 3DS is on track to reach the longest run of any handheld Nintendo system since the original Game Boy. The Switch Lite, meanwhile, will take some time to get itself established in the same niche the 3DS family currently occupies; as such, I’m sure the latter still has at least another year of support left in it, regardless of how much of that support comes from Nintendo itself.
