Song of the Day #14 - Books by Swiss Lips

Alas, Swiss Lips were a short but brightly burning star. I saw them at a couple of May Balls and thought they were pretty damn rad; unfortunately they folded sometime last year, citing that it’s a harsh climate out there for a small band. They leave behind two albums and a handful of other songs to mark their existence; to my shame, I’ve not actually bought or listened to the albums yet, but that may well be the next music purchase I make.

It’s hard to believe but it is that time of year again, 2015 is coming to a close and it’s time to count down my favorite albums of the year.  Here are the albums I liked and listened to a lot but didn’t quite crack the top 30.

“No No No” By Beirut Lots of instruments, always fun, not quite as exciting as their last album though.

“Oh Wonder” By Oh Wonder Female driven light power pop.

“VHS” By X-Ambassadors The guys who did that Renegades song, they actually made a really good album!

“VENUS” By Joy Williams One half of the civil wars, a powerful country/pop album representing strong women everywhere.

“LOVETAP!” By Smallpools A great album of synth pop after an EP last year, too bad all my favorite songs were on that ep…

“Bluryface” By Twenty One Pilots A step in the right direction from the anti-pop heros of last year, their fan base will continue to grow.

“Such Jubilee” By Mandolin Orange Some wonderful uplifting folk-pop.

“Kindred” By Passion Pit A great electro-pop album with one of my favorite songs of the year “Lifted Up (1985)”

“The Album About Nothing” By Wale A rapper who has a ridiculous friendship with Jerry Seinfeld makes an album based off his stand-up and the TV show? I’m in.

“Swiss Lips” By Swiss Lips Some very interesting electronic music with plenty of the human element.

“Vagabond” By Satellite Stories Great sound from Finish indie band.
