Hello and good evening! I've come to realise that I have yet to feature Zadie Smith on my feed. SHAME SHAME SHAME (GoT style). Anyway here Zadie's latest work that I read a while ago when it was still in hardback. I really enjoyed it but when I don't like a Zadie Smith? However, I don't think it's her best ever. Swing Time it's the story of two biracial girls in London who meet at dance class. Only one though manages to become a successful dancer. Growing up the two become estranged but their friendship leaves a sign that can never be forgotten by neither of the two women. The writing is witty and refreshing even if the narrator is not a very likeable person. For me this is not actually a big issue because I love characters that I cam hate...is it relatable? 😁 The big problem for me is that this quite long book tries to deal with too many different topics (gender, race, dance, music, personal growth, family...) leaving them unfinished and consequently a little bit shallow for the reader. I admire what she attempts to do, I am not too sure Zadie managed to get the best results. Still a 4/5 🌟 What do you think about it? And side appreciation of my old tapes and my fabulous cds.
