Caramelisé
In a world he had once seen in a dream, Berdly was walking home after buying a CD Bagel. He slipped into a back alley.
“Hey, mister merchant—are you there?”
From inside a trash can, the man peeked out, waving happily. “BERDLY!”
“Want a bagel? I put cream cheese in it, is that okay?” “[[NO PROBLEM]]! Thank you, [[BERDLY SAMA]]! I’LL TAKE IT!”
In the dream, he and that man were in some sort of romantic relationship. It was strange, and not exactly something he wanted… yet it was also fun. The man was unusually short, with a bony face—but it was a fine, striking bone structure—and cool glasses. Whenever Berdly had one of these odd dreams, he would gaze at the man’s wares with sparkling eyes, only to wake and sigh at the faded reality around him.
“By the way, mister, what’s your name?” “Just a [[SALESMAN]].” “You always say that! Just tell me for once.” “Eh—wwwwwwwwww.”
The man laughed… but then fixed his eyes on Berdly. “Will you give me a kiss?” he asked with a smile.
“With this beak, you might get hurt.”
Berdly turned away, but the man—this time holding both his cheeks—looked him in the eyes.
“[[SPAMTON]]. Remember it.”
Then, with a long black tongue, he licked Berdly’s beak. From that spot, it began to scorch— and the scent was just like sugar caramelizing into a blackened crust.
“—!”
Berdly couldn’t move, and the tongue slid to his neck. His feathers melted into a disheveled mess, faintly swollen and red.
“Today, I’m in the mood for [[CRÈME BRÛLÉE]]♪”
The man “burned” further, down to Berdly’s belly. Somehow it wasn’t hot—rather, it filled him with a gentle warmth that felt good.
“Such lovely [[FEATHERS]]. I’m [[JEALOUS]]!”
The blackened feathers, without burning the skin, turned into a thin black film sweetened with sugar. It was just like caramelisé.
Berdly awoke with the guilty feeling of having done something he shouldn’t have. On his left hand was the trace of caramelisation. No other part of him was burned—but the tip of his left wing was sweetly scorched.

いつかの夢で見た世界で、CDベーグルを買った帰り道をバードリーは歩いていた。 そして、路地裏へと消えていく。
「おじさーん。商人のおじさーん。いらっしゃいますかー？」
ゴミ箱からひょっこりとその男は顔を出すと、「ﾊﾞｰﾄﾞﾘｰ！」と喜んで手を振った。
「おじさん、ベーグル食べる？クリームチーズ挟んじゃったけど、大丈夫？」 「[[大丈夫]]！ありがとうｺﾞｻﾞｲﾏｽ、[[ﾊﾞｰﾄﾞﾘｰｻﾏ]]！ｲﾀﾀﾞｷﾏｽ!」
夢の中のその男との恋愛関係。 とても奇妙だし、不本意なものだけれど、楽しくもあった。 その男は身長が異常に低くて、顔つきは骨ばってて、でも素敵な骨格をしていて、眼鏡がかっこいい。 バードリーは不思議な夢を見るたびに、謎のおじさんの商品をキラキラした目で眺めては、目覚めて色あせた現実にため息をついていた。
「ところで、おじさん、名前はなんていうんだい？」 「只の[[ｾｰﾙｽﾏﾝ]]ﾃﾞｽ」 「いっつもそればっかり！たまには教えてくれよ。」 「ｴｰwwwwwwwwww」
その男は笑っていたけど。 バードリーをじっと見つめ、「キスしてくださいﾏｽか？」と笑った。
「この嘴じゃあ、おじさんが怪我してしまうよ」
バードリーはそう言ってそっぽを向くけれど、おじさん―その男が両頬に手を添えてバードリーの目を見た。
「[[ｽﾊﾟﾑﾄﾝ]]だ、覚ｴﾛ」
そう言って、黒く長い舌でバードリーの嘴を舐めた。すると、そこから焦げ付いていく。 まるで砂糖がカラメルになってそのまま炭になるときのようなにおいがした。
「―――！」
バードリーは動こうにも動けず、そのまま首筋まで舌が来た。 羽はぐちゃぐちゃに溶け、仄かに腫れて赤くなっている。
「今日は[[ｸﾚｰﾑﾌﾞﾘｭﾚ]]の気分♪」
そのままバードリーの腹のあたりも“焼いていく”男。 何故か熱くはなく、程よいぬくもりで満たされて、バードリーにとって気持ちよかった。
「可愛い[[羽]]ﾀﾞ。[[嫉妬]]しちゃう！」
黒く焦げた羽は、皮膚までもはやけどさせずに、砂糖を含んだ黒い膜になっていく。 まるで、キャラメリゼのようだった。

バードリーはいけないことをしてしまったかのような気持ちで起床した。 左手には、キャラメリゼの痕跡。ほかの部位はやけどなどしていなかったが、左の羽先が甘く焦げていた。
