EXTRA:
Rhen and Kippa, how's life been as new parents?
(R) "Honestly? It's kind of amazing. I mean, it's exhausting sure, but Suzzi's the best thing that's happened in my life since I met Kippa. With all the work I'm doing in Janthir lately, I haven't spent as much time with her and Kips as I should, but I try to take breaks as often as I can to help."
(K) "I don't mind. I get to listen in on the most interesting things during Alliance meetings, since I'm technically Isgarren's liaison anyway. And it does help that Lyhr is very fond of me. He's taken with Suzzi, and whenever he checks in he takes her off my hands to tote her around. You'd think he was her grandpa the way he acts."
(R) "And she's smart as hell! I mean sure she's not making full words yet, but it's clear she recognizes things and can point out things we tell her. Pretty common for progeny, I know, but I'll bet she'll be talking before too long. It's so wild to me how fast she picks things up. I just hope I don't miss any big milestones."
(K) "As if I'd let you. Yao did lend me that holo-recorder... it works so much better than the old one Uncle Gixx has in his collection back at the Priory. Even if you're not there, you'll get to see it regardless."
(R) "And I do appreciate that, beautiful- that being said? It's a lot of sleepless nights, sure, but it's exciting all the same. Watching her become her own little person is the best thing in the world, and we're both looking forward to where she goes from here."
Reminded that I desperately need to draw Fractal Suzzi seeing Kippa in Skywatch because in the fractal version of Rata Thauma, Kippa died to save the city and it's Suzzi lamenting losing her daughter before she could apologize for the things she said and did.
(She wasn't supposed to go in at all but...)

Since I drew Suzzi, I've been thinking a lot about Kippa's relationship with her own self image, her relationship with her memories of her mother, the guilt, everything.
I tried to make Suzzi so her daughter clearly looked a lot like her. Suzzi's colors are darker, her hair lighter. Her hair is straight where Kippa's is wavy. She has a longer nose and face, and thinner ears compared to her daughter. They have different markings.
But it's pretty clear Kippa's her mother's daughter. She has Suzzi's smile. A similar profile. They carry themselves very similarly.
I wonder sometimes if she looks in the mirror and thinks about the woman she looks so much like, and tries to piece out the guilt she carries that was Suzzi's guilt first.
Can we have more on the College of Agronometrics and Kippa's mum please?
Absolutely!
The College of Agronometrics was a college in Rata Thauma, which is what I've been calling the city cube that used to be far above the secret Thaumanova Reactor research facility. Based on agricultural engineering, they focused on using magic to enhance the natural. Many greenhouses throughout Metrica and back in Rata Sum use various methods and inventions that came out of that particular college, and the farms in the province thrive because of many of those advancements.
It was the oldest college in Rata Thauma, and considered one of the most important of the asuran schools next to Iatrics (at least to the residents of Rata Thauma- those in Rata Sum may disagree). It wasn't the biggest of the six colleges, but it was popular among students who had considered Dynamics or Statics but wanted to be more hands on with useful inventions with less explosions.
Many of the professors had Agronometrics as their alma mater (Suzzi herself had graduated genius first grade from there), though some notable exceptions tended to come out of Dynamics before falling into working with agriculture instead.
As for Kippa's mother Suzzi, she was a professor at the college, and very well liked and highly respected.
While - like her oldest daughter - she tended towards being very "un-asuran," she was highly intelligent and probably could've had any number of suitors she wanted in any number of contracts... all she ever wanted was Trill, her long time partner and the father of all three of their children.
Suzzi was an elementalist, like Kippa wound up being, and had pioneered several methods to use elementalist magic to prepare soil for planting, largely involving burning and hydration. Her studies at the time of her death were focused around coordinating with many of the greenhouses in Rata Sum to cultivate recently discovered preserved samples of fungi from the deep underground that had come with refugees fleeing the lost cities.
Those mushroom and algae samples are thriving. In some ways, to the surviving family, it feels like a little bit of Suzzi is still there outside of her children.
She was a profoundly loving woman who adored her children. Her guilt, however, often overshadowed her relationship with her oldest daughter, and it created a lot of tension between them. She never meant to dull Kippa's spark- she was terrified that her own mistakes in not vetting the doctor she went to would cause Kippa harm in the long run.
The day the reactor went critical, she'd been planning on traveling to the Priory so they could talk. Obviously that never happened. Tragically, she died with the regret of having hurt her precious, so desperately wanted baby girl so terribly, and Kippa had to carry that weight instead.
Kippa's late mother, Suzzi, who died in Rata Thauma when the secret Thaumanova research laboratory deep beneath the city went critical and destroyed the city cube above it. Kippa takes after her mother in a lot of ways, from their looks to their gentle demeanor.
At the time of her death, Suzzi was still a professor at the College of Agronometrics in Rata Thauma, and a highly respected agricultural engineer in her field.
The gold shades she's wearing in this represent Agronometrics, which used a grain-like gold as their signature color. The orange is for the College of Iatrics, which was the alma mater for both her long-term partner Trill (Kippa's father) and Kippa herself.
