July Microfic Challenge: Day 1
Prompt: Balloons 🩷✨
Pairing: Clois
Words: 499
Author’s note: this is sooo many days late, but I finally finished a response to a prompt from the microfic challenge posted by @fortressofsuper ! Yay! Here’s hoping I’m able to write more lol.
“Clark, what the he-”
“Don’t say h-e-double hockey sticks, Lois, you know how I feel about that,” Clark quickly interrupted from somewhere across his apartment. She couldn’t quite make out where he was exactly, thanks to what had to be hundreds of balloons blocking her view of him.
Lois snorted, attempting to swim through a field of bright pink balloons to get to him, “Oh, I know exactly how you feel about that word, especially if I say it when you’re-”
Clark zoomed to where she was, and wrapped a hand around her waist, pulling her into him. “I get the idea,” Clark chuckled, shaking his head at her, “but I need you to behave now, I’m kind of busy. In case you hadn’t noticed.”
“See, when you say “kind of,” that means there is room for distraction,” Lois replied, snaking her hand up his chest and around his neck as she reached up on her tip toes to capture his lips with hers. Clark melted instantly, making Lois giggle into their kiss. It was her favorite joke to make- that she was his real Kryptonite, and that the green rock had nothing on her power over him.
“You’re not funny,” Clark mumbled onto her mouth, reading her mind.
“I’m a little funny,” Lois replied, “I’m definitely funnier than you.”
“That’s debatable.”
“You sure about that, Smallville? Cause,” Lois pulled back from Clark, smirking up at him, “we can put it to the test, if you’d like. I’d love to rob you of that HS debate trophy.”
“Eh,” Clark’s lips straightened into a thin line, his eyebrows furrowing up as he tilted his head at Lois and said, “I don’t think it’d be that easy.”
“See, but there’s what you think, and there’s what I know,” she teased, laughing when she caught the way his face stiffened. He was so easy to rile up sometimes. Okay. All the time.
“I have to get back to setting up now,” Clark muttered, shooting an awkward smile as he zoomed back to his work corner near the TV.
“Jesus, Clark,” Lois swatted around her, trying to follow him through the balloon maze, “how many of these have you blown up already?”
“457, and counting,” he proudly replied, clapping his hands together, “oh! And look at this, look at this- the lady at the party store gave me this special spray that makes the balloons all sparkly and shiny, look-”
“Clark, I thought we talked about this.”
“We did, but uh… well,” Clark grinned at Lois, “I decided this was a good idea.”
“She’s going to hate it.”
“She loves parties.”
“Yeah but, Clark… pink? Sparkles?”
“You’ll see. Kara’s gonna love her welcome home party. I’ve thought of everything,” Clark said smugly.
Lois smirked and shook her head. “I’m not sure you have. Krypto is gonna go ballistic when he sees all of these.”
Clark’s face grew dark. “Oh, heck,” he muttered.
“See?” Lois laughed. “There’s what you think and what I know.”
