Let’s Talk (Trigger Warning, minor/major? spoilers)
Alright, so there is a design choice I am adding into Symbiosis which I felt the need to address before the next update which will include the finished prologue and part of chapter one. That design choice is the LACK of choice when it comes to certain actions the player will have control over at the beginning of chapter one.
Symbiosis is about an MC who has had a lack of control in their life for five years. They will finally realize how far they have fallen by joining with a former enemy who, if they wanted too, could take control of the MC and force them to do things which they may not want to. Unlike the last five years, however, the symbiote, who I just call Gel in my head, has no desire to take control.
Now, some of the actions the MC will automatically do can be very triggering and involve forms of self-harm in an attempt to gain some small amount of control back. As an example, in the beginning of the first chapter the MC will fall backward off of a building and wonder, “If this time I will not chicken out”
There will also be some other actions that are initially out of the players control. Notice I say initially. The main flow of the story is about someone regaining control of their life, themselves, and the world around them. These actions range from the minor, the MC having taken up drinking and now having a drug addiction, though technically neither of these should ever be considered minor. To the major action, self-harm and thoughts of suicide.
As the story continues the player will gain more and more control over these actions as the MC regains more and more control of themself, and their life. Now, being all about choice, the player can force the MC to continue down this path, but there will be long-term CONSEQUENCES, sorry felt the need to emphasize that, if the player does so. What these are I will not say.
Whichever way the player takes their MC some choices will always be available. Finding their old self, their former idealism, and their desire to protect the world is one. Then there is the other, burning down everything around them. Obviously, the first path is fairly obvious as to what it entails. So is the second I like to think. But to clarify for those who are asking, YESÂ you can simply just begin leveling buildings, wasting criminals/heroes, and not giving a damn about the innocents you once wanted to protect.
As with all things, there are CONSEQUENCESÂ to all your actions. I will be adding a large trigger warning to the beginning of the story, as well as the ability to disable several kinds of nsfw content such as adult-oriented scenes and certain ways of dealing with your enemies.
That is it for now, I have to get back to work. I hope you all have an amazing day.
