You know who doesn’t get the credit they deserve: @tyrabanks. This woman taught an entire generation how to pose, smile with our eyes, make ourselves look taller by the way we hold our legs, lift our heads and show neck, find your light, give angles. She also talked about blackness and a biased industry on television in front of white people. She had substance. Showed us what fresh face actually looked like and criticized an industry for how harshly it photoshopped normal bodies. Knew she was a #SuoerModel but still showed us how her breast were “too big” and sometimes her butt was “too round” for an industry not made to prefer her tho she looks like God. . More importantly than how to smile with my eyes - what #TyraTaughtMe was that sharing my wisdom and the “secrets” to my “success” was never going to diminish me. If I give someone else the keys to getting THEIR glow up that will not dim my own light. Tyra practiced Celie and Nettie Theory. If she knew it we could know it. That is Womanism. . Yesterday I had an hr conv abt why my work will be legendary. That’s not what the conversation was abt on the surface but that’s what it was about. “Theory.” Some people will just share info. And that is important. They are incredible teachers and we are better because of them. But I will tell you WHY and THAT is why my work will live forever. Womanism is the history, the work, the methodology, and the theory. Here I am over here in this happy headed existence sounding and looking like myself in a world that says I must NEVER sound or look like myself and daily blown away by the way my existence impacts people who I wasn’t even targeting. THATS the proof that Womanism Saved all of us! It wasn’t even for (you) and you still benefited. There is nothing else like that. Black Women did that! . As a scholar, preacher, educator, and coach THAT is what I’m supporting people to get to. You were called to something. But what is the WHY that you’re solving & sharing? Where is your proof? Who are you helping?
