I hope that with every step you take together,

he finds it hard to keep up.

I hope that each morning when he opens his eyes,

a little less love for you remains.

I hope that with every fight you have,

comes the slow, quiet leaving of his side.

And in the end, I hope he finds it hard to love you.

It may be wrong to hope for this,

and I know it would bring you tears.

But I also know that in the end,

I could never measure up to him.

So I hope he falters, even just a little.

I hope he struggles, even for a while.
