Haha so you're team dahi baray or team dahi bhallay? :p
Dahi baray :D
Hello! Please recommend me a really awesome Pakistan TV drama. Something that does not revolve too much around family politics.
Hi there! Sorry this took me a minute to answer but all the dramas that I thought of were involved in family politics one way or another lol. I can give you a few suggestions of some dramas that I love that have other main topics besides family politics but all of them will have some form of family politics in them to some degree because that’s just a reflection of the close knit family system of Pakistan.
Okay so here goes:
Dastaan: It’s mainly the story of a girl named Bano who lives through the 1947 partition. It’s based on a novel and explores the lives of of a family in the city of Ludhiana in Punjab before and after the partition. I really love this drama and it will always hold a special place in my heart. While some might view it as an attempt of nationalistic propaganda because of the sensitive subject matter, I think it does a good job of showcasing the events of the partition without creating an us vs. them mentality. And instead of going the route of Muslims= good and Hindus=bad, it goes out of its way to show the difficulties of dealing with such a tension-filled culturally-charged rift, and shows good and bad Muslim, Sikh, and Hindu characters. But of course the main protagonist is a Pakistani-Muslim girl so it can seem a little biased at times. (Sorry for the paragraph, I really love Dastaan lol).
Meri Jaan: It revolves around Aaliyana, who is a famous actress. Her husband randomly disappears one day and the show is kind of a whodunnit crime-thriller. Also, Humayun Saeed plays an underworld don of some sort who has an obsessive soft spot for her and comes to her rescue when the police begin suspecting her. It was a really interesting drama.
Kaafir: The story of a very outspoken girl, Izzat, who isn’t afraid to stand up for herself. At her work, she comes across an influential businessman, Shahan, who hits on her and harasses her. She stands up to him and ends up insulting him in front of the entire office for his behavior which causes a huge dent in his ego. He ends up kidnapping and raping her as revenge. Shahan also happens to be leading a serious double life as his family and social circle believe him to be the most pious and honest man, when in reality he is the opposite. The drama follows Izzat as she learns to deal with her trauma and the injustice of the society to rape-victims, and as she works to take Shahan down.
Aaand that’s about all I can think of off the top of my head. I will also direct you to this post where @allthingspakistanicelebs answered a similar question sometime ago :) Hope that helps!
I am! You reblogged my cricket related posts that's how I guessed. :)
Hiii! Pakistan lost to Bangladesh. I wonder if teh team takes it seriously anymore that they actually have a reputation to uphold. hehe.
What do you think?
