âforget it, youâre a fucking asshole.â +Â âplease donât lie to me again, i canât take it.â
âForget it, youâre a fucking asshole.âÂ
Those were the last word you had uttered to your boyfriend of nearly two years before slamming the door. You were now walking around the neighborhood park aimlessly, desperately wishing you had at least brought Tessa. While you werenât scared, the Staffy definitely would have made you feel safer.Â
The darkness was beginning to settle and the lamp posts had turned on about thirty minutes ago. As the minutes ticked by, the park got emptier and emptier. You didnât mind, not in the mood to talk to anyone, least of all Tom. And thatâs why you kept walking.Â
You couldnât pinpoint exactly what had brought up the subject, which almost bothered you more than the actual fight. Over dinner, the two of you had been talking like usual when Tomâs previous actions turned into the focal point of the conversation.Â
A couple of days ago, Tom had disappeared without much explanation other than âGoing to Hazâs. Iâll be back. Love you.â Yesterday, you had found out from the blue-eyed boy himself that Tom never went to his house. As casually as possible, you had mentioned this over dinner and Tom had not taken it well.Â
The sudden defensiveness in his voice had fueled your nerves, which, at the moment, had turned into anger. He refused to tell you where he had been and soon enough you had had enough, needing some air to think clearly.Â
âFucking hell, darling,â the exclamation brought you back to reality and you looked up to see Tom stalking toward you. âItâs freezing out here. Iâve been looking for you for about an hour. I called everyone to ask if theyâd seen you.â
Scoffing, you wiped away the dried tears with the sleeve of your hoodie. Your boyfriend finally reached you, coming to a stop about a foot away. He looked at you silently, as if waiting for a response before continuing.Â
âIâm sorry,â he started, swallowing audibly. âI-âÂ
âPlease, donât lie to me again,â you interrupted, meeting his sincere eyes. âI canât take it.âÂ
Tom sniffled and only then did realize that he had been crying as well. Plopping down on the bench you had gotten comfortable on, he took your hand in his, gently stroking your skin with the pad of his thumb. He opened his mouth only to close it again, seemingly trying to figure out how to explain himself.Â
âI really am sorry, baby,â he began again, his voice wavering ever-so-slightly. âI blew everything out of proportion and Iâm sorry. Youâre right. I wasnât at Hazâs the other day. I, uh, I went to see your dad.âÂ
Your eyebrows wrinkled with confusion. âWhy couldnât you just have told me that?â
âIâŚâ his answer stopped there, a conflicted look taking over his features. âI couldnât tell you because-because I went there to get his blessing.â
You still werenât following and when a chuckle fell from his lips, you knew he could tell by the look on your face. Turning his torso to face you, he placed his hand on your cheek softly, his thumb running over your cheekbone.Â
âWhy do you need his blessing? Blessing for what? I donât-â
âTo marry you, darling. I needed his blessing to ask you to marry me.âÂ
Oh.Â
There was a brief silence as you tried to fully comprehend his words. Tom wanted to marry you. Tom was going to propose. You had brought it up, having the horrible scenario of him cheating in mind, and he had planned to marry you.Â
âIâm sorry,â you blurted, feeling utterly ridiculous. âI-I just⌠I donât know. You lied to me about going to Harrisonâs and I- Iâm sorry.âÂ
Tom didnât answer, a sympathetic smile dancing on his lips. He shook his head and you knew he had already forgiven you for the momentary lack of trust. With the hand still on your cheek, he pulled you closer and pressed his lips to yours. You didnât protest, melting into his touch.Â
Without breaking the kiss, he stood up and hoisted you into his arms so effortlessly that it was slightly annoying. You giggled against his lips as he began walking, each step causing your lips to bump against his. Soon enough, you were back in your apartment, Tessa jumping eagerly at your feet.
âSo,â Tom started, washing the dishes from dinner. âWill you say yes when I ask?â
You smirked, a playful glint in your eyes. âAsk me and youâll find out.â Â
