Beth and I joined the hiking club for a 6 mile walk on a local trail this morning. Although it will be warming to 40 tomorrow, today's weather reminded me of MN. The snow is starting to disappear at lower elevations and I hope we get more; I want to cross-country ski and we need the moisture for the dry season this summer.
This afternoon we woke up from a nap to find a pair of deer strolling through the backyard.
Since it is so warm and the rain had almost stopped we decided to go down to the river. We weren’t disappointed!
On the way back Beth noticed 3 deer bedded down under some trees just off the trail. Because the trail is covered in ice, our snowshoes make a lot of racket. I’m sure the deer heard us coming from a mile away and decided to just be still and take their chances. We stood 25 feet away for 5 minutes to take pictures and they didn’t flinch.

Three miles in 34f rain was a still a good time. The snow had a hard crust of ice but I still got the chance to try out my new snowshoes. They were much more stable, especially in deep snow.
Before we started, the hike leader said something awesome, “Bad weather always looks worse through the window.”
Hard to think of anything more fun than running in falling snow. Ten miles on snow covered roads with 14 degree F windchill. I was a bit overdressed.
Seeing the elk graze on our street never gets old.
