It was my very first time snowshoeing. We walked through knee-deep snow for hours, going higher and higher. It was very challenging—probably more than my physical ability at the time. Snowshoes are mostly made of plastic, but they felt surprisingly heavy with every step.
The most memorable part of the day, though, was how freezing cold it was. I’m honestly surprised I didn’t get frostbite, but my fingertips were so numb that it lasted for a few days afterward.

Derpy boy not a fan of the water
There was still enough snow for snowshoeing in my woods today, but it was wicked slippery and I fell on my ass several times. The snow bridges over the stream have all melted and collapsed, and the water is up over the stepping stones I use in the summer. Bucky was not thrilled about the possibility of getting his toes wet, but lucky for him he’s a big dog and can jump farther than he thinks he can. I however got to test out the waterproofness of my boots.
I got some nice pictures too of Bucky and the sunset while he pondered whether he wanted his walkies badly enough to risk wet footsies.
Supposed to be another warm day tomorrow, and then a few days of rain. Mud season is on its way.
Ugh it’s warm and the snow is melting. Soon my walking trails will be all mud.
But here’s some pics of my dogs in the snow to cheer myself up!
Nighttime walk!
Dusk walk! With full moon rising!
Daytime walk!
Oh wow a walk with my human, too!
And testing out my grandma’s snowshoes. I don’t use them when I walk the dogs, because they don’t have crampons built in, and without that extra traction the dogs could just drag me wherever they want to go.
