Do you have any opinions on BS? Do you think they were just friends or possibly more? Was they’re romance forced or underdeveloped? I get curious about people’s well constructive criticism (Which you have) & not some anti who just nit picks certain parts & completely take it out of content.
i really liked blacksun in the first three volumes. i think the romantic buildup was more than there with very overt romantic coding like the blushing, the connections away from both of their teams, blake opening up about her tragic past, etc. it was developed very well and in a believable way where blake could still hang out with her friends and sun with his team but their budding relationship didn’t eclipse that, they complimented each other very well.
however, my love for it fell in volume 4. i’ve been over it before that blake hitting sun was inexcusable and disgusting and there was never an apology for that. i think it put a big dent in their relationship for me and i didn’t feel happy shipping it after that.
but the romantic coding was still there even in the next three volumes for blacksun. ghira being the overprotective dad to the potential boyfriend, kali being the appreciative mother who’s happy for her child. sun is the reason that blake is still alive and i think they both know that in the show and that’s why blake stopped pushing him away when she was still doing that to everyone else. sun has been the only one blake has consistently let past her barriers because he’s earned that and she feels she can trust him.
i think that sun’s comment in v6 was not him shooting down the ship or his own feelings like some people think but him making it clear that he didn’t do all of this just to get in blake’s pants. he did this because he cares about her as a very close friend and potential partner, he knows and understands how much blake carries and all her grief and self hatred and sadness. he wants to lift that up for her and in the first three volumes, blake was also giving back into the relationship. so yeah, blacksun was very obviously put into the show for a purpose and their moments had very obvious romantic coding, even though i now don’t ship it past volume 4 and won’t without some serious change from blake and her character.
