Color Theory, musical alias of one Brian Hazard, bringing the synthwave I was craving for this summer. With fireworks hitting every fourth note on the snare drum, and bringing both the beautiful pops & melancholic lulls that make it truly amazing, here is âThe Fifth of Julyâ off his album âThe Majesty of Our Broken Pastâ: enjoy! đđ
Lyrics below:
THE FIFTH OF JULY ©2018 Brian Hazard (ASCAP)
Gunpowder traces Charcoal circles on the ground Shot me with a Roman candle You really shouldnât fool around
We stood there barefoot Sweating in the summer heat As the rockets turned to rainbows In the middle of our street
Now the smoke has cleared The fireworks show is over Steam and sulphur Now the smoke has cleared The days when we were closer Ashes smolder On the fifth of July
I count ten heartbeats Face the heat of your red glare How I'll miss these grand explosions F-bombs bursting in the air
Now the smoke has cleared The fireworks show is over Steam and sulphur Now the smoke has cleared Declare your independence Or pledge allegiance Do you want to be free From me On the fifth of July?
The Chainsmokers:Â âWaterbed ft. Waterbedâ
I like it when things fall directly into my lap, via my inbox, like this one from âbutfirstletmetakeaselfieâ fame The Chainsmokers. Described, by themselves, as âlike a TWERK track and a M83 track had sex on a night out of a fireball", âWaterbedâ is a shimmery synth pop low key EDM track.Â
Hello Summer.
They also explain why the song is called âWaterbedâ and also features Waterbed (which makes me think of that Marc by Marc Jacobs for Marc Jacobs meme but I digress), its cause the artist Waterbed wrote the topline and Chainsmokers were, like, yeah thatâs a cool name letâs go with that. I can dig it. (Waterbed are a boy/girl duo from LA)
Effie Liu:Â âWhat I Hafta Doâ
To be honest, I clicked on the link to this song because I saw the words âBroad City Approvedâ and if those two queens love it, thereâs a real good chance I am. And I do. Effie Liuâs âWhat I Hafta Doâ is a fun funky disco pop jam perfect for summer. Get this involved in youâre adventures, youâll have fun.
And check out this track âWings On Fleekâ, dedicated to eyeliner.

Lex Low:Â âRaysâ
Iâve been a fan of this kid for a while now and its been real fun watching him grow as an artist from the early days of ALECs to Lex Low and âRaysâ is just another reason why I love what this kid is doing. âRaysâ is a shimmery summer synth rnb kind of thing, with autotuned vocals over big warm synths.Â
If you like Bipolar Sunshine, MNEK, Shy Girls and even Journalsâ era Justin...

Strange Talk: "Morning Sun"
This is another song that I've been listening to a lot recently thanks to a discovery in a film (That Awkward Moment). It's a perfect piece of synth pop and it's basically soundtracking my summer. Enjoy.Â
Strange Talk are from (but of course) Melbourne, Aus., and the rest of their stuff is pretty damn good too, listen here.

Bipolar Sunshine: "Deckchairs On The Moon"
Shiny summer synth stuff from the always amazing Bipolar Sunshine. Taking it in a more funkier direction that usual, "Deckchairs On The Moon" is a dreamy mix perfect for summer adventures.
