Welsknight - Sumi-e
Sumi-e is a Japanese style that depicts minimalist landscapes using only black ink and red highlights. I originally planned to use Ukiyo-E for Wels, which would have been Wels as a samurai, but I remembered learning Sumi-E when I was young and really enjoying the minimalist process. I really enjoyed working with this piece! I love Sumi-E and lino cutting, which is how the stamp is made. Both the piece and the stamp were difficult to recreate digitally, because I don't have a stylus that can account for pressure or angle, so I couldn't properly utilize all the angles of the brush. For the stamp, I filled the rectangle with red and used a messy brush to erase around what I wanted the stamp to be. The stamp is a traditional artist signature, which in this case is a translation of Fallguy that fits the meaning behind my fandom name. All in all it was very fun to pick up this art style again, and I'm considering getting the materials to work with it again physically!

I need to just post this or else I'm gonna keep trying to fix things. :^)
I wanted to attempt a sumi-e style painting with Warden Ingo. I'm always trying to keep clean lines for my drawings but I much prefer being able to be kind of 'loose' with it, so this was a ton of fun to paint.
