Sensei, it's been quite some time and I just want to have a different topic (other than that Sakura/Jurina thing) so let me ask you: What is your modern AKB top 5 songs? I know it's quite hard to put an exact date to separete the two eras but let's say Acchan is the milestone so after her graduation begins the modern age.
Alright, so post-Maeda, AKB48 only, right? That really narrows it down; I’ve so many songs that I like across 48G that I’ve lost count. Let’s see:
5. Sugar Rush (Wreck-it Ralph OST, 2012)Catchy, fun, and a perfect fit for its context as the theme song to a racing video game. This song was my entry point into AKB48,and it remains a huge point of pride for me as both a 48G and a Disney fan.
4. Halloween Night (AKB48 41st)I love this song’s classic, funky disco sound. Not so much the Village People dance-along-with-us vibe of Koisuru Fortune Cookie, or the laid-back, Motown feel of Kokoro no Placard, but more a Michael Jackson, Thriller-type disco funk. Plus, the costumes are simply awesome, exuding a fun, guro-kawaii vibe that I really, really like.
3. #Sukinanda (AKB48 49th)This song was a strong callback to AKB48′s roots, putting a modern, Instagram-era twist on its classic J-idol tune with its lyrics. Combined with a PV that would not have been out of place in a #VISITOKINAWA campaign, it quickly shot to the top of my all-time favourites list.
2. 47 no Suteki na Machi e (AKB48 37th B-side)The song on its own is a jovial, geographical romp through Japan’s 47 prefectures, and stands as a very enjoyable entry in 48G’s discography. Within the fandom, though, you could argue that this song has developed legendary status as an anthem for Team 8. You do not know the definition of ‘turnt’ until you hear this song come on during any 48G concert, and the ENTIRE audience, regardless of sister-group affiliation, goes absolutely WILD with the Team 8 gachi-koi cheer.
1. Koisuru Fortune Cookie (AKB48 32nd)Paired up with one of 48G’s most aggressive, widespread marketing blitzes of all time, Koisuru Fortune Cookie was an instant classic, becoming almost legendary with a classic, catchy, fun, memorable and versatile melody that cemented it amongst 48G’s best and most popular tunes.
