#subtitles tutorial

i haven't really felt the need to change the font i use in years; it's Ariel Rounded MT Bold. i usually keep it Strong but you can experiment with that if you like the other styles

for the other settings i just use a bit of stroke and drop shadow:

one different thing i do which i don't think most people do is i duplicate the subtitles on top of each other - mainly to make the drop shadow deeper and make the text stand out in front of the background better

When your gif is done and you want to write something on it:

Always edit the text on the first frame of your gif.

1 - open a text box and write whatever it is in it:

2 - Open the Layer Style box (by clicking twice at the text layer) and set it like this:

Or add 2px of black Stroke to make a subtitle effect:

You'll notice that the stroke or the shadow will only appear on the first frame of your gif, so what you need to do is: click with the right button at the text layer and "Convert to Smart Object" and then "Rasterize Type"

PS: This will change the text to image, so you won't be able to edit it anymore. Make sure everything is right before doing it.

The font I used in this is Novecento Wide. *tip* you can make an account in this website and add the font to your cart, because it costs $0 then check out... the download link will go to your email and it's completery reliable.

I usually use simple fonts like this one or Times (New) Roman if I want to simply add some text to my gif or Arial/Helvetica to make subtitles.
