“I’ve found that telling students to ‘compare and contrast’ can result in a lot of confusion, so instead, I had them use subordinating conjunctions for their analysis of Macbeth & Banquo. One of my favorite sentence level activities- courtesy of @TheWritingRevol.”

Sentence Starters
There are a lot of myths about what you can or cant start a sentence with. I have two interesting things to keep in mind:
I. Subordinating Conjunctions
Here’s a small list of subordinating conjunctions: after, because, when, before, since, unless, until, where, as if, though, etc
You can start a sentence with them, just have the independent clause follow (Fogarty 78).
The italicized word is the subordinating conjunction.
1. After painting for three hours straight, Daisy knew her clothes were covered in paint.
2. How he passed the test without studying at all, we will never know.
II. Coordinating Conjunctions
The famous FANBOYS -- For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So (So is also a subordinating conjunction). Start a sentence with one of these for emphasis (Fogarty 79).
1. But he did not want to marry her.
2. Or maybe we shouldn’t do that.
SUBORDINATING CONJUNCTIONS
Subordinating conjunctions are formal signals or indicators of subordination of one clause to another. The indicator is contained in the subordinate rather than the main clause. Some commonly used subordinating conjunctions are:
अधीनस्थ संयोजन एक औपचारिक सिग्नल या एक खंड के अधीन रहने के संकेतक हैं। सूचक मुख्य खंड के बजाय अधीनस्थ में निहित है कुछ सामान्यतः अधीनस्थ संयोजन होते हैं:

A subordinating conjunction, placed at the beginning of subordinate clause, serves as a transition between the dependent clause and the rest of the sentence. A subordinating conjunction can also indicate the time, place, reason, condition, result, contrast, choice, or cause and effect relationship.
A complex sentence has two clauses: A main clause (or independent) and a subordinate clause (or dependent). The most important element in this kind of sentences is the subordinating conjunctions.
