If Gene Bryson can't be a cowboy lawman, well then, he doesn't want to be a lawman at all.
[New Sublette County Sheriff Stephen]Ā Haskell decided the Western look no longer belonged on his officers. He decided on new uniforms: black trousers, a tan shirt, black boots and a black ball cap. And you wonāt see Gene Bryson wearing any of it.Ā
Bryson wore a brown cowboy hat, brown cowboy boots, summertime leather vest or wintertime wool vest. He retired on Friday after 28 years with the Sublette County Sherriffās Department, 40 years total in law enforcement.
āThatās kind of the reason why I retired,ā Bryson said. āI am not going to change. Iāve been here for 40-odd years in the Sheriffās Office, and Iām not going to go out and buy combat boots and throw my vest and hat away and say, āThis is the new me.ā Thatās not going to work.ā
Bryson said he wouldāve stayed if not for the rule change. But now that heās retired, heāll spend more time with his wife and grandchildren and at his gun shop in Marbleton.

It was suggested as an emigrant road by Mountain Man John Hockaday in order to avoid alkali plains of the desert, shorten the trip to the Pacific by five days and provide more water, grass and wood. In 1857 it was improved as a wagon road by the Government under theā¦
