The display screen flashing with the name Tae distracted you.
“You’re getting a call.”, you apprehensively stated the obvious. You didn't know what to think about the elusive member you had yet to meet. While explaining the curse to you and Gina, Yoongi had mentioned that the younger member had been out trying to find the witch since the moment he had heard about your existence.
Accepting the call, Namjoon frowned down at you. Your pulse had quickened.
“Hyung,”, the deep, husky voice that filled the car made you go statue still. Your apprehension turned into curiosity. “I’ve got some very bad news and some kinda, sorta, maybe a little better news. What do you want to hear first?”
“What the hell happened?” He stepped on it, the car zooming past buildings and pedestrians. You clutched your seatbelt.
“You’re no fun.”,Taehyung huffed, then declared, “The witch is dead. And no I didn't kill her, though I wish I did. Pity though, she's got a beautiful daughter.”
“What?!”, Namjoon narrowly missed tailing the headlight of the car ahead, overtaking it illegally.
You gulped, looking around you for any cops.
“Yeah.”, Taehyung stretched the word dramatically. “As for the better news, I’ve found a substitute witch. Well, not found exactly but you know. Suli’s smoking hot daughter was kind enough to get me a name—”
“Tae.” Namjoon pinched the bridge of his nose in frustration and for a second you feared he was going to ram the car into the back of the RV ahead. “Come back, you moron. Don't tell me you’re planning on going on a solo witch hunt again.”
Something rustled through the speakers and the sound of a highway filtered through. Maybe he was on the road too. “I can’t, hyung. You know why.”
Namjoon growled. “No, I fucking don’t. And you know you can’t drink from any other source now, right? What are you gonna fucking do? Go on a hunger strike till you—”
“Yeah! If I have to.”, Taehyung exclaimed, his own anger surfacing. “ Maybe you guys don't care, but I can't just passively accept this bullshit, hyung. I like my freedom over everything else, and I don't plan on giving it up anytime soon.”
The way he refused to say the word mate or even mention you in any way or form didn't go unnoticed by you.
Have these guys even given a single thought about what I'm going through? How I feel?
Namjoon didn't like Tae’s words either, but for an entirely different reason altogether. “You really think this is easy for us, huh? My relationship with Gina just went down the gutter, the deadline for our next album is fast approaching, recording isn't even close to finishing and we can't even practice without you. You don't know what's going on here.”
Biting your lip, you glanced at Namjoon. Those were his biggest worries? Unsurprisingly, you didn’t figure anywhere in there. Why were they conversing as if you were a big blackhole they didn't even want to mention?
Then finally Taehyung did mention you.
“And I don't want to know.”, he snapped. “I’m not interested in how mated life is suiting you guys till I get rid of that problem you’ve no doubt invited to live in with us.”, he spat the word mated as if it was something vile.
Namjoon’s eyes snapped to you in alarm. Guess he was dreading your reaction instead of actually being offended for the “mate” he was waxing poetic about before Taehyung had called.
Oh, you’ll give him a reaction, alright.
“That problem,”, you enunciated with barely controlled fury. “can hear you loud and fucking clear, you asshole.”
“What the…”, Taehyung breathed, sounding shell-shocked.
“Stop the car.”, you ordered Namjoon without looking at him. “Pull up on the side of the road.”
He didn’t, giving you an apologetic glance you did not appreciate. “Y/n—”
“Please, Namjoon.”, you pressed, emotion colouring your words. “Stop the car.”
A confused voice crackled through the speakers. “Wait, what is—”
Namjoon ended the call, cutting him off. Pressing the breaks on the speeding car, he pulled up on the side of the road not long after. Before he could utter a word you were out the door, marching down the sidewalk purposefully.
“Y/n!”, Namjoon yelled , getting out and immediately going after you. “Where the hell do you think you’re going?”
“I’ll catch a cab from here. You can go back to your members. You must be busy, I don't want to waste your time.” You always had a flair for the overdramatic when you were pissed.
Hastening your pace you stepped on the side of the road to search for a familiar luminous taxitop sign above a car.
“Are you fucking crazy?!”, Namjoon raged, dashing after you. You were no match for his fast gait and he was onto you in seconds, gripping your arm. “Stop right now, Y/n, this is not fucking funny!”
Making one last ditch effort, you jerked free and broke into a run. Speeding cars zoomed close to you and you knew you were about to go to jail for jaywalking. But you didn't care, you desperately wanted to get away.
You had barely managed to gain a few meters when twin, muscular forearms snaked around your waist, lifting you off the ground and tightly squeezing you to an equally firm chest.
Squealing in surprise when Namjoon swung you around to trek back to the car, it dawned on you what a spectacle you two must look. If anybody recognised him…
“Shut up!”, he growled in your ear, making goosebumps rise along your neck. You stopped squealing but only because the press of his arms against the underside of your breasts distracted you.
“I had no fucking clue you could be this reckless.”, he continued raging in your ear. “You almost gave me a goddamn heart attack, y/n.”
Dumping you beside the Tesla, he spun you around by the shoulders, getting in your face. “Do you have no regard for yourself?! For us? If anything happened to you we would—”
Your patience snapped. “Why should I care?!”
Fisting the front of his hoodie, you pulled him in just to scream in his face. “Why should I care about people who see me as one giant problem anyways?”
