The Best of Glamour at Cannes
The Cannes International Film Festival is upon us once again. Since its foundation in 1946 it previews new films from all genres and gives out awards, the most prestigious being the Palme d’Or for the best film.
It has become an important showcase for European films, many winning the Palme d’Or (such as “La Vie d’Adele” / Blue is the Warmest Colour in 2013). The week-long festival is certainly the most publicised and most anticipated film festival of the year.
Held in May, the French Riviera is overtaken with film stars, models and royalty for the invitation-only event. This year marks the 68th edition of the festival and we have already seen some of the captivating glamour that is to come throughout the week at the opening party.
Over the last few decades, Cannes has become known for the red carpet looks, as well as the films it showcases. As always, all eyes will be on the red carpet as celebrities take glamour to its full extent.
At this year’s opening ceremony we saw model Karlie Kloss sparkle in a silver floor-length dress, Julianne Moore ooze sophistication in a black feathered dress and Lupita Nyong’o bring a splash of colour in a green dress. So many more idyllic dresses are to come as the festival progresses. but we thought we’d take you through some of the best, prettiest and most glamourous dresses of Cannes, ever!

The Right Shoes for your Denim
Have you ever been in the situation when you have a pair of jeans that you want to wear, but you don’t know which shoes will work with the outfit? Or you’ve just bought a new pair of heels and don’t know what to wear them with?
Well, we have the ultimate guide for you and you can buy the perfect shoe with our Stylect App for iOS / Android or visit our website.
Skinny jeans
Skinny jeans are an ultimate jean favourite and, thankfully, they work with a whole array of shoe types.
High tops. This shoe of the moment is perfect for a casual day out or for running errands.
Ankle boots. Wear dark suede and leather in winter, and lighter tones in the summer. Make sure the jean stops at the top of the boot for the perfect fit.
Knee high boots. Skinny jeans were made for these boots, with the added advantage that the boots make your legs look longer.
Loafers. The perfect combination of a stylish and laidback look.
Pointy ballet pumps. With a little more edge to them than the ordinary pump, these are great for a working day in the office or a casual night out.
Flat sandals. Even in the warmer months you can wear your favourite skinny jeans with a pair of flat sandals. Ideal for drinks after work or if you’re heading to brunch.
Strappy heels. Wear for ultimate sex appeal.
Pointy heels. Dress up your jeans with a pointy heel for a sleek and stylish look.
Straight leg jeans
Many people prefer the straight leg jean to the skinny jean, as they are a little more forgiving. They may not go with as many shoes, but they look just as good.
Pointy heels. Going out in the evening? Smarten up your look with a pair of pointy heels.
Sneakers. Go super casual and comfy with a pair of converse or similar.
Ankle boots. Roll up the bottom of the jean for a casual day out.
Kitten heels. Giving you a little extra height works perfectly with these jeans.
Ballet pumps. These work well for a day-to-night transition. Pick a bright coloured pump to make your outfit ‘pop’.
Boyfriend jeans
This jean is both super comfortable and stylish. Wear the right pair of shoes to give off the style vibe you desire.
Heels. Give your jeans a feminine touch with a pair of heels.
Ankle boots. Want to wear your boyfriend jeans in the winter? Pair them up with ankle boots.
Flip flops. If you’re just popping out to run some errands or taking a casual stroll during the warmer months, grab yourself a pair of flip flops.
Ballet pumps. Perfect for a smart casual combo.
Sneakers. Wear for a laidback look.
Flare jeans
They may be from the ‘70s, but flares are still rocking the fashion scene. Try them out with these shoes for a perfect look - make sure the flare doesn’t drag on the floor.
Wedges. They add height, which is perfect for this jean, and they compliment the boho vibe of flares.
Ankle boots. Also adding a little height and perfect for the colder months.
Heeled sandals. Perfect for a night out in spring/summer.
Pointy heels. Get a stylish look instantly with a classic pair of pointy heels for a night out.
Platform heels. Gain that little extra height with a pair of platform heels.
Bootcut jeans
In between a straight jean and a flare. Although the name suggests they are only to be worn with boots, the work with other shoes as well.
Ankle boots. Take it from the name of the jean. Perfect with ankle boots all year round.
Pointy heels. Enhance your look with a pair of pointy heels.
Heeled sandals. Keep your feet cool in the warmer months and look effortlessly stylish doing it.
Cropped jeans
These jeans are a staple outfit in spring/summer. They can look casual or smart, it just depends on the shoe.
Ballet pumps. Pick a colourful pump to get into the summer spirit, while staying comfortable.
Gladiator sandals. A perfect shoe for summer and cropped jeans. Wear for a day event or a night out.
Open-toe heeled sandals. Vamp up your outfit with these shoes.
Pointy heels. Automatically smarten your look with a pair of pointy heels.
Cut off shorts
Casual, fun and ideal for summer. Most importantly, they are easy to style.
Flip flops. At the beach or running errands, flip flops are comfortable and perfect for the heat.
Embellished sandals. Flat and delicate - ideal for a day in the park.
Sneakers. For the ultimate casual look and perfect for a day of walking around.
Wedge sandals. These shoes will add length to your legs and instantly smarten up your look.
Heeled sandals. If you’re heading out for drinks, these shoes will give your outfit a stylish edge.

Which Trainers Should You Wear Running?
What size should you get? Should you get generic trainers? Do you need all the fancy new technology? Is colour really important?
There has always been a wide range of options when buying trainers. Now, with new technology and the current fashion trends, there are even more options! Buying trainers can be a very confusing and stressful ordeal (which shoe shopping should never be!)
Firstly, it’s recommended that you get trainers which is one size up from your normal shoe size. This allows your foot to breath and to expand as it gets hot during exercise, making your whole running experience more enjoyable. Also ignore the myth that you need to wear your trainers in - if they’re not comfortable when you first try them on, don’t buy them!
Secondly, make sure you get trainers that are right for the ground you run on. If you run a lot on pavement, get road trainers - cushioned to protect your spine and feet. If you prefer exercising in the gym or going on walks, then cross-training shoes are for you, as they have a non marking sole (good for indoors), they are waterproof and more durable. Or if you run on uneven/muddy ground buy trail shoes, as they have better grip and for short distance races (5k/10k), get a light, flat shoe - racing flats.
Thirdly, trainers tend to get more expensive the more hi-tech they are. All the technological advancements make the shoe much more comfortable, but they are not essential - you will be able to run in a basic trainer. The only difference is that you may not be able to run for as long. So, if you’re running a marathon you will almost certainly want to invest in a pair of trainers with a more cushioned sole and personal fit. You should expect to pay between £40-£150.
Lastly, colour, obviously, won’t make a difference to how you run, but it might make a difference to how you feel about running. If you like the look of your trainers, you’re more likely to wear them, reminding you to go running. A bright colour is also likely to trigger happy thoughts.
Our top 10 trainers of 2015:
Adistar Boost - with an extra grippy outsole this is brilliant for running in wet conditions.
Asics Gel-Lyte33 - a great choice for beginner runners.
Brooks Ghost 7 - super comfortable and perfect for long distance (the extra cushioning takes out the spring in the shoe, necessary for short runs and sprints).
Inov8 Race Ultra 290 - wide and spacious, perfect for runs over 50k.
Merrell Bare Access Trail - a snug fit, suitable for windy trails and/or runs under 50k.
Nike Flyknit Lunar 3 - best possible fit trainers, with a tight fit on the heel and a more open front.
Nike Free - similar to the barefoot, this thinner soled shoe is perfect for the gym or running on the road.
Nike Free TR Fit 5 - the ultimate gym workout shoe, lightweight and made to suit movement in all directions.
On Cloudster - by encouraging mid-foot strike, this trainer causes less strain on the knees.
Vivobarefoot Evo Pure - a ‘barely-there’ shoe that is extremely lightweight and allows you to move naturally, resulting in an injury free running experience.

Fashion in Politics
With the General Election 1 day away our TV screens and Newspapers have been filled with politicians vowing to make Britain better with its party’s policies. From immigration laws to public spending, we’ve heard it all.
We’ve also noticed how fashion is taking the political world by storm. Indeed, some of the leading ladies looked especially stylish in the TV debates and on other public appearances. So, we thought we’d have a quick look at some of the styles in Politics at the moment.
In the UK
Plaid Cymru’s Leanne Wood - sophisticated, stylish and simple. A hint of colour with a black blazer over a red dress or a pink jacket over a beige dress. She also goes bold with coloured shoes like these pink pumps.
Nicola Sturgeon of the SNP - Livens up the political scene with bright colours, favouring reds, navy and purple outfits. She teams this up with a pair of sleek high heels.
Samantha Cameron - Although not a politician herself, her sophisticated style and being married to the PM deserves her a mention. Wearing a variety dress and skirts with simple pumps.
Home Secretary Theresa May - Favours simple and traditional outfits with a touch of youth, like with these half black, half animal print ankle boots.
Across the pond
Hillary Clinton of the Democratic Party - Putting a feminine twist on pantsuits with fun colours / headbands / oversized sunglasses and low heels.
Michelle Obama - Like Samantha Cameron, Michelle is not directly involved with politics. However, she is currently America’s First Lady and she brightens up the White House with her daring and colourful fashion items. Favouring knee length dresses with patterns, she always finishes her outfits with a simple heel, like these black pumps.
