I wish my writing wasn't total shitstains... i want to talk about Lad and Waltz's dichotomy in regards to grieving/re-experiencing love after loss but within the supernatural framework of stygs which is about dream/nightmare manifestations without it sounding like I just sorta pulled this out of my butt
Waltz is a master of bones. Like actually seriously within the arpg's framework he is a representative of the concept of nightmares about >bones< like skeleton bones. Bones! And so with that I write him to be a master manipulator of bones by re-animating them and giving them a body to resolve conflict and also incentivize someone like LAD and Incu to collect more for his (semi)noble causes. This is like.. done with fairly decent illusory care, again thanks to the supernatural framework of the arpg, so it's one of those close your eyes and just play pretend with me kinds of things. Waltz's motive and visionary drive is from meta-textually losing his wife Alexiel, played by my teen-years rp partner btw Ren if you're out there you're still part of my creative force in these enormous echoes. Lexi was his entire world he really is the wifeguy ever and he was born unto this stygsverse without her physically but with her memory well in tact. With other in-game presences, like the Labyrinth (NPC) which also does the giving-life-to-otherwise-inanimate-things, he is trying to basically bring her back for realsies. It isnt possible but he doesnt know that and wouldnt choose to believe it hes very determined that "this is different" Now Lad on the other hand suffers a similar fate - boyfriend also belongs to Ren, his name is Risk. I've decided Risk accompanies Lad by way of voice given no body, something that Waltz actually doesn't have with Lexi... Waltz frequently tries to urge Lad into accepting his visionary reanimation of Risk to bribe him into helping grow the collection of bones. That process probably looks something like harvesting the unassuming thru coercion and whatnot but.. anyways... with Lad the illusion isnt as strong. He can kinda tell. The cards he was given were a little different from Waltz's.
Lad also has been ascended recently in the game to represent Broken Hearts (the way Waltz = Bones) ... something he technically *does* a lot when he's "doing his job" for Waltz. The venue for this "job" is a storefront/mall illusion, the store Lad works in affectionately called Not Topic. Anyways Lad is supposed to lure those ready to become part of Waltz's collection. He's not alone, any other stygs related to this universe of mine are portable too they would do something similar but thru different means. Lad's mean. He's cold and he's bitter and hostile and a hipster about his interests and passionate (wow i wonder who this is projecting haha) to the point of being hard to get along with. This is also somehow a turn-on for a lot of people so instead of correcting his behavior, Waltz lets him stay this way and takes full advantage of it,,,,, cause he employs other stygs too. Like Incu! Incu is the people pleaser. I would love to come back and edit this with more about Incu but the focus is on the tug of war between Lad and Waltz rn. Think of Incu like... the kid being drawn and quartered in a divorce. So Lad is progressively becoming fed up with the tricks Waltz pulls to keep him in line because his connection to Risk is not physical. It's something nebulously different and it haunts him. He more... HEARS him in everything rather than sees him in everything. This would account for Lad's affinity towards music and whatnot. (hi Nekrohaunt) But he's not ready to cut the thread and leave Waltz who's sorta been his guardian for so long... his literal boss too. What would the alternative even be??? This is why I hate my writing cause Im struggling to put it into ONE SENTENCE format but I believe that I have something built on the concept between acceptance and denial where Lad is going to gravitate towards acceptance in the end and Waltz WILL carry denial with him to his last breath. I fantasize Lad ending him in some way shape or form (esp post ascension) but I still need better scaffolding for my ideas :sob:
