Edit: I have been informed thankfully but gonna leave this up because I really do know some older folk from ff.net days still use the og terms
Hey so as a 28yr old I’m curious and really confused as to how the original definition of proshipping became so warped and misinterpreted, I’m figuring it’s probably got something to do with anti-shippers moving over to mainstream social media and influencing the whole 2020s mass influx of kids and teens moving into spaces they really weren’t mentally prepared and matured enough for
edit: I hadn’t really noticed the sudden influx of people on here thinking being a pro-shipper meant being ok with pedo or incest? Until a few people I follow had been reblogging stuff about it and it’s new to me context (and for the new fandom joiners)
I really want to say this because I know there are people older than 20 still are under the assumption that pro-ship still means ‘don’t like don’t read’ and ‘ship and let ship’ and newer generation fandom goers really should do even just a quick google of what anti-shipping and pro-shipping actually is, heck there’s even a research paper on the topic Please do some research the way the fandom environment is going is troubling and I don’t understand why the older fandom population haven’t been clarifying or explaining the words that are being misinterpreted and misused (I guess it’s a bit too late for that and we need to be informed ourselves)
Here’s a couple of links for anyone who wants to do a bit of reading about the pre Covid fandom life and culture
