Duolingo bullied me to study for 100 days and this is why I donât regret it
We all now that Duolingo is notorious is for sending notifications to its user base to study their target languages. Sometimes these can be comedic even creating a viral meme. However regardless of this I have been using it for 100 days to help me study Spanish, and this is why I didnât regret it for one second.
Yes, it is true to that Duolingo offers a premium program with no ads, unlimited lives and some other benefits, however it doesnât limit the lesson content you can have regardless of if you payed or not. Believe it or not this is hard to come by, almost all of the online language services I have tried limits what you can learn by the amount you pay.Â
It is not solely for native English speakers
This is something I struggled a lot with while trying to learn Spanish. Even though Iâve a good grasp of English, my native language is Turkish and it affects the way I understand the languages. That is why Duolingo is amazing, for each language there are specific courses that target people with different native languages.
Learning a new language itself is hard enough but with hard to maneuver websites things get even more trickier. Duolingo is super easy to navigate with a simple design, you just open the app, choose your target language and immediately begin the course. You can take one lesson after an another and you gradually move into much more difficult concepts. It also offers a test out option for each language course so it is helpful to people who need to brush up on their language skills and people who are just beginning.
Emphasis on the learning process
It begins by using text, pictures, and audio to help you. Apparently the idea is for you to associate the sounds with the visuals of the text, and then have you manually translate back into you native language to reinforce new words. Every section moves you to a much more difficult tasks to build on your vocabulary and sentence structure. This mixture helps you put more focus into the learning process.
You donât have to have an account
I personally find it helpful to have an account to track your progress but I know that some people donât like to have one. Itâs okay Duolingo offers its services without an account.
Overall, Duolingo is a staple example of mobile language learning. It helped me in a way that my traditional classes werenât able to. Plus, a nice point of Duolingo is that many of the courses are created by native speakers which helps empower communities. With all being said, some people find Duolingo âscaryâ (I might do an another post on this) but I can say that without doubt Duolingo is one of the best language learning apps out there.
