#studio residency

Sept 2017 - In September I put out an OPEN CALL for artists of any background, who wanted to develop a creative project in London, England for the month of November - whether that be a series of paintings, some sculpture or an installation. This was a residency for my studio in Central London. 

First of all, I submitted my first application on which I identified as “gender fluid,” because that’s what I am. I am proud of myself; I’m going to start using that id from now on (yikes!). :)

that being said, if given the space I’m going to do an audio-visual installation and live performance project for the album of music i’m going to begin working on after i finish recording the next 2 songs in my paradigm in time creative queue. I CAN DO ThiS. YEs!

of course if i don’t get this thing it won’t be the end of the world. i tried my best, but I’ll not allow it to crush my dreams if it doesn’t go through. i have things to say and express and I am going to say and express them no matter the cost or stakes. I shall live for me and define my own success. this opportunity would help me tremendously, but I am not going to do a disservice to my health and well-being by relying on it.

the sessions begin in 2016 but the chosen few (just 3!) will be selected and notified later this year. I’ll keep you all informed! 

Three weeks is a very short period of time to develop a sense of home or familiarity. Pockets of home-ness come not from references to home (there is so much information that such things get buried in sensation) but from accessing places which feel exclusive- intimate.

  By seeking out the hidden or forbidden, one accesses a place where nobody else is- or at the least, one is with others who also had to seek out such a space. A place only functional in its difficulty to find establishes an intimacy of common purpose with the others who arrive there. It is not quite about privacy, as many of the private spaces here (bedrooms, the studios, bathrooms, elevators) are temporarily rented spaces, for hours or minutes, but instead about effort exerted and uniqueness of the space. It belongs to you, just a little bit, because you are sharing it a little less with everyone.

  If only such places weren’t just as transitory (for hours or minutes).

12:14 - I have spent the morning editing film. I chose not to bring my projector or projector screen in today as I did not know if I could store anything here. I have now confirmed that I am able to do so, so I aim to bring it in tomorrow so that I can project my film and editing process to explore how to exhibit my work and the process of producing it. 

13:05 - Editing is going well. I have also began to document our presence within the space through photography.
