YAAAAAAAAAAAY TILLY
Sam is adorable and such a dork and full of curiosity and I love it so much
I don't think the show is bold enough to do this, but given the events of how episode six played out, if moving forward Caleb Mir is deaf that would be exceptionally interesting both narratively and within the canon of the show.
To have a main character suddenly becoming deaf mid-season and committing to that would honestly be so wild. It would be very interesting to see how he adapts and what futuristic adaptions he is given. The idea of it all really reminds me of Geordi La Forge and his Visor and i think it would be a bold swing to make this choice for a main character that doesn't start their journey with any visible physical issues.
I also think it would really punch home Tamira claiming Caleb is going to hate her, but he'll be alive so much harder if she's making the choice to harm him to stop him from dying. It would be what she knows she can do with her ability because she's done it before on accident.
And having Ocam as Caleb's roommate presents a great opportunity for him teach Caleb how to sign which would be so good to see (very much of the option Caleb would be driven to dominate and conquer his new reality just like in the debate episode where he states he learned all the laws to get the upper hand in prison). The rest of the cadets would absolutely get on board with picking up the language as well for Caleb and it would show him how not alone he is any longer despite loosing one of his senses.
There would also be this deep guilt in Tarima about all this, understandably so, but I think it presents a much more complex relationship between her and Caleb moving forward regardless of whether or not they end up working out.
