Understanding and not judging from acceptance to forgiveness
Understanding not judging
Food for thought I felt like writing
One of the most valuable lessons I’ve learned is that forgiveness isn’t just something we give to other people.
It’s something we must learn to give ourselves.
As I forgive others, I forgive myself.
Not because I was perfect.
Not because they were perfect.
But because human beings are imperfect by nature.
Most situations in life are not entirely one person’s fault. That’s often just our desire to simplify something that is far more complex. Life is rarely that black and white.
Sometimes we acted out of fear.
Sometimes we acted out of love.
Sometimes we acted out of ignorance.
Sometimes we simply didn’t know then what we know now.
The older I get, the more I realize that growth begins with acceptance.
Acceptance of who we were.
Acceptance of who we are.
And acceptance of who we still have the opportunity to become.
At the end of the day, when the noise quiets down and the world stops pulling at your attention, there is one person you will always come home to.
Yourself.
You are the first person you see when you open your eyes in the morning.
You are the last person you live with when you close them at night.
That relationship matters.
Learning to love the skin you’re in does not mean believing you’re perfect. It means accepting yourself enough to be honest about where you are today while believing in your ability to become better tomorrow.
We can always learn.
We can always adapt.
We can always grow.
But growth starts with acceptance, and acceptance starts with forgiveness.
Not just for others.
For ourselves.
Because peace doesn’t come from winning an argument with the past.
Peace comes from making peace with it.
