The Auction’s Impact

In the aftermath of the reopening of the Atrium and Ministry’s auction debacle, different sides begin to emerge. There are those who believe the Ministry when it says it wants to protect muggleborns from harm, but there are others who have noted that Death Eater violence has gone down in the past few weeks. There are still others who make the connection between the two and though they have no proof, they wonder just how much the Ministry has been infiltrated by pureblood supremacists.

However, even Albus Dumbledore will not call Barty Crouch anything but fair and just, which makes the Ministry’s actions all the more confusing.

The rift becomes even more apparent on March 5, with the announcement of new anti-muggleborn legislation by Interim Minister Crouch. Couched, yet again, under the guise of protecting muggleborns, Interim Minister Crouch announces the Muggle Influence and Child Protection Act, effective immediately. With the act also comes the creation of a new office: The Office for the Protection of Muggleborn Children.

Under the Muggle Influence and Child Protection Act, any child under Hogwarts age who has been identified as magical and has two muggle parents will be removed from the household. The parents’ memories will be modified and the child will be placed into a Wizarding Orphanage and available for magical adoption, a procedure involving blood magic that had previously been illegal as it quite literally removes the hereditary ties of the biological parents and replaces them with the adoptive ones, legally making blood adopted children the blood status of their parents.

There are many tax incentives for adopting a magical child and some pureblood families with no heirs see this as the perfect way to continue their family name. At any rate, Interim Minister Crouch argues that this will remove the violent influences of muggles and ensure that all children are brought up in British magical culture. While halfbloods and purebloods are encouraged to adopt, muggleborns are prohibited from doing so.

It is hoped, Interim Minister Crouch states, that muggleborns will eventually be discovered at birth so as to make this ease of transition better. If this is effective, within two centuries, the idea of muggleborns could be all but eradicated.

While this act is not retroactive, it makes many muggleborns uneasy and some begin to hide their own parents, worried that one day they will lose the only family they have left. Similarly, those halfbloods with a full muggle parent remain watchful, yet concerned, many of them refusing to be complacent any longer.

The Death Eaters are pleased and Voldemort encourages them to adopt any muggleborn children, knowing that if they are indoctrinated early enough, he will soon have a new generation of followers.

The Order of the Phoenix is aghast and Albus Dumbledore publicly decries the legislation, calling it barbaric and inhumane. He has realized that he is now fighting a war on two fronts with a similar enemy and he resolves to get a spy into the Ministry of Magic as soon as possible.

Simone Rowle, who had been leaning toward the Order of the Phoenix for months, finally takes the plunge, blaming the Death Eaters fully for her brother’s death. At the next meeting, she is confirmed as a member, armed with the knowledge that she may very well be fighting friends and family in the future.

The Wizengamot calls an emergency session, though their vote is little more than ceremonial, as the Ministry has suspended the Wizengamot’s authority until the state of emergency has ended. At the end of the vote, several members are arrested outside of the chamber under guise of treason, though they are released the following day. The damage - public perception - has already been done.

February 2

The first meeting of the inner circle is tense, and the message to be passed to the other members is clear. Thorfinn’s fate was brought about because he could not follow orders. And while it has created a golden opportunity for the Death Eaters that they must capitalise on, they should not forget what can happen if they ignore orders.

Vincent Yaxley is commended for his quick thinking and smooth work during the incident.

Individual Death Eaters are not privy to the knowledge that Crouch has been placed under the imperius curse, though they are given sufficient information to infer that he is working for the same aims as they are.

Beyond the meeting, the Death Eaters are relatively silent. It is imperative that no one know of how Interim Minister Crouch came to his post - or who is truly pulling the strings. Advocating sheer support for him immediately could give the impression that there is more than meets the eye  and if there is one thing Voldemort does not want, it is for someone else to go digging. On the subject of Interim Minister Crouch’s appointment, the Death Eater social accounts are relatively quiet.

The Order of the Phoenix, having been on its guard through most of the holiday season, decides that the beginning of the new year is one to celebrate. A private party is organized at the Hog’s Head in Hogsmeade, with the bill being footed by some of the wealthier members of the Order. Only those who are in the Order or know about significant others/family members being in the Order are allowed to enter and it is not a requirement for all members to attend.

The Ministry of Magic has an annual party on New Year’s. This party is generally more exclusive and expensive than others, with tickets being purchased ahead of time, though employees are given two tickets for free as a perk. This year, much of the money charged for admission has been pocketed by the Ministry and many attendees are a bit put out by how less than glamorous it appears to be.

In Diagon Alley, the ball drops at the stroke of midnight. Most shops are open and many vendors have set up to sell hot drinks and food. This is one of the more informal celebrations in the Wizarding World, though many welcome it after the formality of the holidays. This year, there are aurors patrolling the streets to ensure safety, but other than a few drunken scrapes, it is relatively safe.

Moving Forward

On January 1, 2018, the Wizarding World awakens to a shocking headline. The Ministry of Magic has wiretapped all of their phones, the Daily Prophet proclaims. Taken to task by a star journalist, the Prophet is scathing in its derision of their basic rights. Other media outlets take it further and the possibility of it being brought up to the Muggle Prime MInister is not out of the question - they are still subjects of the queen, after all, and the Ministry of Magic, while mostly autonomous, cannot operate outside of Britain’s governing authorities. It is the win both the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix have been hoping for.

Benjy Fenwick’s office is inundated with several concerned citizens, many of whom offer a great deal of money to remove the offending wiretapping from their phone. Seeing this as a gesture of goodwill, Benjy personally funds an exchange program for all of those who wish it, and Albus Dumbledore coordinates a similar program in Hogsmeade, greatly increasing his goodwill.

The Minister of Magic refuses to comment on the proceedings, which simply results in the growing ire of her citizens. At the end of the day, the Ministry’s credibility is lost and many who work there begin to wonder just how much they’re willing to put up with.

This delay in acceptances will apply to current members, that is, we will not accept within 24 hours of receiving an application from a current member like we normally would. This is to give everyone a fair chance to get in applications for the new characters. After this acceptance, we will revert back to making an acceptance decision on current member applications within 24 hours.

We will be posting new bios every day until Wednesday 24 January when our submit box will be reopened. 

The new characters won’t be visible on the main character page yet, but we will be updating it tomorrow. Keep in mind that we will also be updating our app, so the current app has been removed. We hope to get the new app up tomorrow. 

Hey everyone! Happy Friday and...happy December! To bring some of the holiday cheer into the rp, we decided to do a virtual Secret Santa. 

To participate in this, please comment with your name on this post by December 5. You will then receive the name of the person who you will be making a gift for by December 7. These pairings will be between members and not characters so don’t worry if you get paired up with someone who has a few.

There is no mandatory “gift.” Some ideas to get you started include: moodboards, drabbles, stories, edits, playlists, aesthetics, etc. Whatever you want to do goes so feel free to get creative!

Please submit your gift to the main by December 20 and we will submit everyone’s gifts to their accounts by Christmas! 

Hi everyone! Just a notice that we will be having an activity check on Monday, January 8. At that time, we will be messaging anyone who hasn’t posted within the previous five days unless they are on hiatus. After receiving a message from us, players will have 24 hours to post or contact the main before being unfollowed.

Each year, Wizarding Britain’s Christmas Ball is sponsored by the businesses of Diagon and Horizont Alleys. This year, the organizers take great care to plan a spectacular event, with top shelf liquor and the best canapes and petit fours money can buy. It’s important, after all, for people to come together in these trying times. Besides, it’s Christmas, and those on both sides remain hopeful that they can lay down their arms long enough to celebrate with their families and enjoy the holiday.

It has been far too long since a violent event, far too long since the green skull was formed in the sky. And while that makes people feel somewhat better, others are concerned that they are being lulled into a false sense of security, that the other side is going to act when it’s least expected. Their concerns are founded, though they don’t know it when they arrive to the party of the year.

Unlike at the Halloween Masquerade Ball, the organizers take great care to ensure that safety is paramount. Before entering, every guest is searched and identified, their names carefully catalogued. Wands and electronic items are checked at the door and aurors are stationed at each entrance. While some balk at the security provisions, others see them as an acknowledgement of the current political climate and are gratified that the Ministry has finally done something about all the goings on.

Unbeknownst to those who are attending as guests, the Ministry of Magic has worked with the organizers of the ball on more than just security. Directed by Millicent Bagnold and operating with an unspeakable on the particulars, trusted Ministry employees place a spell on all electronic devices to alert Ministry officials when certain words are used in messages, the idea coming from an offhand remark Otto Bagman made about muggle governments. It’s not a foolproof method, but it’s the Ministry’s best hope to stop both the terrorist and vigilante groups. Wiretapping is unheard of in the Wizarding World and at the end of the evening, the guests are none the wiser about their tampered devices.
