Guy’s “Mascot Eludha”

As an Ikorian human with the eludha ability, it’s fitting that my companion, a wingless Patagia tiger spirit I call “Sunstripe,” is my familiar as a student of Lorehold College; after all, she and I have been (figuratively) inseparable for years!

Reflection upon my gift has led me to wonder if humans from planes other than Ikoria might also be able to acquire it, and since my friends have companions of their own, it was quickly decided that they’d volunteer as “test subjects”.

Here’s how it went for each of us:

“Sunstripe” & Haldrax

As stated above, Sunstripe and I were already eludha-bonded going into the “alpha” test, and we were provided information on a Planeswalker from my home plane who’d traveled to Arcavios a few years ago and bonded with a creature here, suggesting my theory could be proven true…

“Hyakumaru” & Tenami

It’s well-known throughout the academy that a piece of the Reikai (Kamigawa’s spirit realm) became fused with Tenami-chan’s “soul” during her youth, and that her mascot is a raccoon-like fractal called Hyakumaru, so called because she “ran a hundred circles ‘round her” as they met.

What isn’t as well-known is that Hyakumaru IS Tenami-chan’s spirit realm fragment in a semi-corporeal form, apparently synthesized from a “vector model” in her computational device, so in a sense the two are already eludha-bonded.

However, we decided to replicate an authentic Ikorian eludha experience, with the result being a Raugrin-themed “avatar skin” for Hyakumaru…

“Deinoblot” & Kid

Named after a great figure of myth and legend from Kid’s native plane, albeit a “play-on-words” (which is itself a play-on-words, apparently), the once-monochromatic Deinoblot experienced a “maximized amateur dramatic G2-style redeco” when his ink-based physiology transformed in reaction to exposure from Ketria crystal energy, making him the most colorful inkling on campus!

“Electrelk” & Leda

A gold-and-silver elk figurine animated to life by a mystic in the far reaches of Leda’s home plane, the curiously named Electrelk is able to alter its size and softness, becoming as tall n’ tactile as a “real” elk, allowing it to be ridden by its human.

Naturally, the duo were excited to experience a “fabulous makeover” reflecting the “bold styles” of the monsters in my plane’s triome of Zagoth, and while the luminous roseate ruby mottling is… unexpected, I’d say it’s an uncanny visage. 10/10!

“Gooseluce” & Geordi

It’s a lovely day in Park Heights, and Luce is a horrible goose… at least according to G.G., who swears that this honking, feathery, web-footed abomination is the one who’d single-wingedly interrupted their compleation by (and I quote): “sneakin’ into a speakeasy, chuggin’ down a few bottles o’ Halo, then layin’ into the robogoon who t’rew me into that oily doohickey WHILE IT WAS STILL T’ROWING ME IN, only pausin’ to yank me back out before givin’ that sonovahitch the ol’ Unbridled Goose Pain… by the time that angel found us, the Phyrexian’s “phy” and “sian” were pecked right off ‘cos it was more of a ‘reck than the Maestros’ turf, and Luce’s blood-halo level was so high that he’d somehow managed to turn off the oil in my blood, which cured me… mostly.”

After hearing this tall-sounding tale, as well as many, many other stories of varying credibility starring this allegedly literal nightmare spawn (he apparently “hatched” from one of Geordi’s bad dreams into the waking world), there was no question of Gooseluce’s representative triome…

Pal’s “Eternia Botanica”

As a mandated part of their Witherbloom tuition, student Geordi Verdante has decided to write a nonfiction series of tomes that details the many varieties of floræ found across the multiverse.

The author’s first volume, which is dedicated to the incipient botanical ecosystems of Thunder Junction, requires a sabbatical group expedition to the plane in question, with all financing and resources handled by Mx. Verdante’s liaison, an independent agent of the Sterling Company on loan from The Brokers Family of New Capenna.

In lieu of standard group excursion practices at Strixhaven Academy, Mx. Verdante has opted to select their own “posse” of representatives from each of the five colleges, with advisement that at least one prefect be included in the delegation…
