Wow what a July 4th weekend! I got a strong kick of small town Americana while visiting Ted and Laurie Shaner Quinn and their awesome family. First a farm share in Bordentown, NJ where I saw Chamomile grown for the first time, and we picked collard greens and other delicious vegetables, and 3 year old Henry pretended to ride a tractor. Move to a small town diner where 2 year old Sammy hugs another baby. Biking around Palmyra and getting drenched in a storm after checking out the firehouse because the attendant was friendly enough to let us in. Hiking the unique terrain of the Pine Barrens, coming upon canoers in a river who Ted knew well. Then eating some ribs at a delicious spot nearby. Next morning 7 year old Elsie Quinn ran a 5K race with her mom in only 26 min, second among her age group. Henry and Ted also completed a 1k in good time. Then a town parade with Philly string bands, a carnival with bouncy houses and a grease pole, a soapbox derby with a crazy MC and seemingly the entire town in attendance. Some amazing home cooked food, tag and board games and picture book time with the kids. Top it off meeting Bayard Templeton, Alex Cook Templeton and their daughter Issie at Smith Playhouse in Philly. Even saw a NYC friend who happened to be in town afterwards, drove him from the Philly Myseum of Art to our favorite Philly diner Silk City, had some dessert and walked the rail park. When it started raining surprisingly I drove him home. And that’s only maybe 70% of it, not even. Hopefully the summer will continue to get even better, God bless America! #america #smalltown #smalltownusa #palmyra #riverton #cinnamonsin #bordentown #bordentownnj #american #newjersey #philly #stringbands #stringband #philadelphia #cityofbrotherlylove #americansociety #july4th #july #july2021 #independenceday #indie #indieday https://www.instagram.com/p/CRATSdTLx0T/?utm_medium=tumblr
